I'm used to now having 4K or 3D releases stripped of Dolby Atmos, and I'm dumbfounded that the Atmos track is relegated to only the 2D blu-ray disc.
I've managed to sync up two players, using the secondary player to play the Atmos track. It's not ideal, but it seems I can now count on studios to botch releases, but am grateful they still include the blu ray disc. |

I'm still planning to upgrade to the 4K release despite its deficiencies.
Personally, the lack of HDR doesn't really bother me that much. I have a few SDR UHD Blus already (live Opera recordings), and the quality of each has been very impressive. More disappointing is the lower-quality audio encode vs the lossless audio available on the (presumably) lesser blu-ray version. I can live with it, though. |

What’s the point of people pointing out that the Blu-rays with the lossless audio are still included? How does that make it any less annoying that you can’t watch the episodes in 4K WITH the lossless audio?! I would have been all over this, but seriously, the Blu-rays are already reference and blow the 4K stream away. I doubt I could even tell much difference, in any, from a normal viewing distance. And lossy audio on top of it is just a deal-breaker for me. Maybe if this had HDR it would be a little harder of a decision.....man, what a disappointment.

Epic fail on the audio. That will hurt sales. I’m not4K ready yet... but I would have future proofed with this set...now it’s a no Sale and no regrets. The current BLU set with true had 5.1 is the only way to go.
Sad thing is sales will be really bad for the 4K and Netflix will think it is because no one wanted it not because they had no clue how to release it. |

And I’ll take TrueHD 24bit audio over DD5.1 any day, too. What’s your point? No one is arguing that the video won’t be better. But making the audio worse is just unforgivable.

...divided by six channels, yeah that is terrible.
That said, does that mean that each channel is around 100kbps, with a corresponding frequency cutoff around, oh, 16kHz is about where an old fashioned 128kbps audio file would end. Or does Dolby Digital do something fancy to preserve more than that? Can Dolby Digital have up to 22kHz even so? |

It just allows a finer gradation of the limited range encompassing the Rec. 709 color space and assisting in less visible banding. Rec 709 is not considered a wide color gamut. Cinema P3, Rec. 2020 and beyond are. Last edited by FilmFreakosaurus; 11-15-2017 at 12:09 AM. |
