I've had a UK PS4 for about a year now and it has been working fine. I installed the latest update at the weekend and then played a DVD yesterday. This may have been the first DVD I've played in the machine as I was prompted with a 'You must set a region to allow playback' message, to which I selected Region 2 for Europe.
Tonight I've tried to play a BD and it has come up with the following message: "ATTENTION This disc has been coded for Region B only and will not play in this machine. Please eject this disc and play on a Region B player." I tried another Region B-locked disc and got a similar message. ![]() Has anyone had the same thing happen, or knows how to chage it back? I didn't even realise you could alter the BD Region - I certainly can't find any setting within the options. Can anyone help? Apologies if this is the wrong forum but as it was regarding BD playback rather than gaming I thought this more appropriate. |

There is a an option to change the DVD region with some machines (and you can only change the choice 4 times), but I haven't heard anything about changing the BD regions. I'd double check the DVD region setting and the player's origin. It should be as standard set to region B and region 2.
Pop in a US DVD if you have one to see if it gives you another warning, but it almost sounds like the firmware update has bricked the BD player. |

A standard UK bought PS4 should never ask you to set a region. It's just a case of putting in a compatible disc and then it should play
The only thing is the latest update has caused a problem. Contact Sony who should be able to help: https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/ge.../contact-form/ |

Although Blu-ray games are not region-locked on PS4 consoles, however, the PS4 Blu-ray player is region-locked for multimedia content such as Blu-ray or DVD disc. It the region code on DVD disc is different from the region code setting on your PS4, you will fail to open your Blu-ray or DVD disc on PS4.
Adjust PS4 region code setting to play DVD disc You can confirm a disc's region code by checking the disc's case and then adjust the system's region code setting for let it compatible with the region code on your Blu-ray and DVD disc. As the region code setting for a PS4 system can be changed a maximum of 4 times, after which the region code will be locked. And restoring default settings or initializing the game console system will have no effect on the region code settings or the number of times you change it. |
