The funny thing is, I love cats. I don't have any now, but the ones I have had I truly loved.

And yet, they are the most brutal animals alive.

It's not that I want wall-to-wall bird action, I just think some of the build-up could have been trimmed a bit.

But I also personally am more interested in messed-up humans, so films like Marnie or Vertigo are more compelling to me than a weird, unexplained phenomenon of birds going nutso.
Really couldn't disagree more. The first thirty minutes or so are my favorite portion of the film.

I always thought Oliver Stone's run from 1985-1999 was impressive:

Salvador
Platoon
Wall Street

Talk Radio (when is this coming to Blu-ray?)
Born On The Fourth Of July
The Doors
JFK
Heaven And Earth
Natural Born Killers
Nixon

U-Turn
Any Given Sunday
(theatrical version only; I hated
[Show spoiler]the "eye"
scene in the director's cut, which I thought was completely unnecessary)

I'd say that The Doors and Any Given Sunday are the weakest entries of that run, but that's a really solid decade and a half, with a few classics thrown in there. I re-watched U-Turn recently and liked it more this time around than when I saw it theatrically.

I think Hitch did what he often did: Set up a situation that seemed obvious, then turned it on its head.

Not to mention that Tippi Hedren was insanely gorgeous and many of those introductory scenes were weird and creepy at the same time.

I have yet to see a Hitchcock film that I didn't like. Every time I go into a film that is supposed to be a "misfire," I walk away pleasantly surprised. I've seen probably 30 of his films, so maybe I've avoided some of the real duds, but I Confess, Topaz, Family Plot... all really enjoyable in their own ways. They exceeded my expectations.

...and I think The Birds is fantastic.

Apparently Alfred Hitchcock had a bit of the Harvey Weinstein in him.

At least according to Tippi Hedren.

...that's a shame.

If you don't count The Keep (which he disowned) Michael Mann from '81 to '99 is pretty untouchable.

Thief, Manhunter, The Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider.... and I would personally stretch it all the way to Miami Vice, but I know some people will question that (along with Ali).

no. I have not.

was going to pick it up recently... I wanted to pair it w/ something else for free shipping and couldn't decide on the "something else," so I didn't get it.

Both Ali and Last of the Mohicans ruin that run for me. The rest are all great though.

Yet no one else he worked with has come out with any such accusations.

So because he didn't do it to multiple people, it somehow invalidates one person who came forward? That makes sense. It's this victim shaming that has allowed people like this to get away with it for so long, and it's still happening right here, which is pretty sad.

do we have to get into this discussion on this thread right now? I like coming here to not hear about who touched who.

I was going to weigh in, but after reading this I decided not to. It's a topic that only leads to discord and derailing of threads.

Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid or Lone Star in February would make me a happy camper.
