I constantly have to pause for a bathroom break (I drink a lot of water throughout the day), also I may end up checking my phone, or doing some other random thing while Im at it (like grab a snack). That could easily go on for a good 10-15 minutes total. I havent timed the player but it does seem to power off automatically pretty fast and that annoys me. I come from my Sammy K8500 which actually has a screensaver and takes a good while to automatically power off. Its not really a gripe with this player just a disappointment, it’s all about convenience and this player doesn’t offer something that could have been easily included.

Other than zoning which in many cases could also be just controlled by software on the same hardware in many cases there doesn't need to be much of a difference certainly that is not the case with the feature we are discussing. And the USA share the zoning with many countries, the next concern is the voltage but even then lots of them these days use the same multi voltage supply regardless of the market they are intended for so there is certainly not any reason why US players need to be manufactured any different to others. |

I am unhappy about certain features? Certainly! particularly not having analog outputs or a display within the player but at this price I would not think twice about it before buying it again and I have already. |

Mine was doing that when I initially hooked it up to a Pioneer VSX-53. The receiver would switch to TV and I’d lose audio. The problem I had turned out to be the receiver and not the player. It went away after I disabled the ARC function and hasn’t come back.

So, now I know I'm connected to the internet via wired, and this confirms what some Network settings have been showing, "OK". But it still will not update. I'm beginning to wonder if the issue is with SONY servers. |

"Outputvideo resolution">auto and "4K upscale setting">auto2 The HDMI will output 4k on regular BD and 1080 on DVDs. I am pleased with the results of those settings, try and see if you like them. Alternatively "output video resolution" set to 4k will always output 4k and does make dvd look better but if you happen to connect the player to a non 4k monitor (I do) you might not get picture. This player is really good when it comes to upscaling but remember no piece of equipment can generate information thats not there, it only adds pixels based on the limited information a DVD has. BTY my HDMI color is always on auto Last edited by cochon; 11-15-2017 at 11:35 PM. |

Is it ok to leave auto2 on when putting in a 4k movie or turn it off? Blu rays look fantastic on upscale, but DVD seem grainy when i put them in. Maybe im so used to such good pictute these dats that DVD is like VHS now. |

My EU model Samsung mid range T.V. set must have a great upscaler as compared with how the Sony X-800 upscales to 4K the Samsung T.V. looks great when displaying 1080p coming from a BD disc, but if the same disc is upscaled by the Sony X-800 (playing very high quality video material like Sully, Passengers or Prometheus) picture is softer and I think a bit noisier. I'm very conservative with the Sharpness setting which I have set at 20 (out of 100) for both HD and UHD BD signals. And I can't see any sign of edge enhancement on the upscaling done by the Samsung T.V.

I am using the HDMI cables furnished by Comcast and I have no problems with 4K HDR content.

Buy a blu-ray player from Russia, France, Spain, etc and bring it to the U.S and see if it'll work, then you'll find out.

When up-scaling the player only generate more pixels which are based on the original lower definition source, some players and tvs do a better job than others but at the end you still have an inferior source and that is what it will always be. I only watch DVDs or VHS when I have no option. I am very spoiled too. DVDs are now torture for me, some disc are not so terrible but they don't stand a chance next to what we have now. |

Has anyone been able to use a wireless (bluetooth) keyboard with this player or is the bluetooth in it designed to work with a music player/speakers, etc?
When I press the bluetooth button on the remote and it starts scanning it's not able to detect any bluetooth devices in the room. I have a Samsung bluetooth keyboard (I don't know if it's not seeing it due to Samsung having some propriatery pairing code in it), it's not seeing my Android phone (also Samsung), etc. Is there any other keyboard that would work with this? |

The bluetooth appears to be just for headphones or speakers. One good thing, it claims it has a special protocol that allows a much broader band for transmitting sound that is not downgraded. |

Not sure if it happens to a lot of these players or just a few. Since it's only a minor inconvenience to me since I get the firmware through the computer, I haven't looked up on this issue much. I wasn't aware that there were a lot of comments about the player not being able to update over wi-fi or the Ethernet. Definitely something to consider if you are going to spend more money on a modded version. Quote:
Radek_t doesn't have this issue on his player though, so it may be an issue with some X800 units? |

I took your advice and popped in Do The Right Thing on Criterion DVD and it looked great for a DVD. |
