Review on amazon makes me want to check out Returns. If it looks better than TDK, then count me in!
How would one go about this process?

Also, The Dark Knight was a disappointing transfer (although I loved the shifting aspect ratios and the movie was fantastic).

I watched Returns up until the point of Selina Kyle turning into Cat Woman. Its definitely beyond DVD but its not 5 star quality. I'd give it 4/5. Some scenes are 5/5 but some are 3/5. So 4/5 is about an average imo.

I certainly think importers will be getting their monies worth. I'm a happy camper.

i watched batman last night all the way thru.. will watch all of returns tonight..

DAMN!! so many things i noticed and ive seen this hundreds of times! was like being 4 and seeing it for the first time.

id go as far as to say it could be reference matrierial we are looking at. the shot where the joker breaks the mirror and the light and we are left in the dark looks great.. BLACK and not GREY like my dvd copy is!

this very black and dark movie looks as it should be, the dvd was washed out. this is a definate must buy definatley 5 star PQ

I'll wait for the US release.

But... I'm very excited these are coming. I'll get them for sure when then come out here.

I think you need your eyes checked. Disapointing? It goes right near the top of best looking Blus.

the us release for batman 1989 is in march of 2009. if you have the HDnetmovies channel. they are playing the movie this month. it looks awesome.
I remember seeing batman returns off of cinemax months ago and it did indeed look awesome.

Maybe my expectations were higher?

Given how great this movie is, how successful it is, and how much money it made them, I expected nothing but the best.

anything can be disappointing if you go in with unreal expectations.

always keep the expectations low, especially movies with the ridiculous hype and you'll be a happier movie fan.

Thats what they gave us. Not a single flaw in the audio or video that I have noticed or heard anyone else notice. Beautiful and perfect.

I'm still surprised the four Batman films didn't get a U.S. release in 08. What was WB thinking?

Not very good films, but I must admit that I want these as well.

I think I'm gonna wait for a box set. Probably gonna wait for the US release too, even though it is region free.

It wasn't a bad transfer. It was true to the film. The problem that you're identifying is the "edge enhancement", I assume? Yeah, that was there on the IMAX master to sharpen the relatively "soft" 35 mm footage. Notice that the 70 mm footage looks perfect and amazing, while the only problems with the 35 portions are from processing that was done for the IMAX presentation.

It is a good TRANSFER. The problem here is that to avoid the processing the film undertook for the IMAX, they'd need to transfer the two masters independently, then splice together a single 1080p digital version created from the separate transfers from the different sources.

Batman (1989) is getting a US release as a digibook in March. No word on Returns, Forever, or ...& Robin. I assure you that they'll come in time though. Especially with The Dark Knight making Warner so much money, they should be itching to get more Batman out there, particularly the Burton films.

The "screenshot scientists" have identified an easily overlooked edge enhancement. It's not difficult to notice on a screenshot that's been blown up, but it is difficult for a normal person to notice during actual playback of the film on a reasonably "normal" sized screen (i.e. NOT a 100 inch +). It's been grossly blown out of proportion. The PQ is easily still high quality stuff, particularly the flawless 70 mm footage.
