I have had no communication with this repair place before this. I think it’s compeltely unreasonable for complete strangers you’ve never heard of to come and take your property without asking permission first (they’d already booked a delivery driver and everything and only ask to make sure I’d be in). They never once rang to ask “Is it ok if we borrowed a disc?” They acted, for lack of a better word, entitled to have access to my discs.

This is less to do with what they want and everything to do with how they communicated and conducted themselves.
No doubt this has been handled badly. If it was up to me I'll be complaining to LG customer service and I would have consumer affairs looking into it but I still think the request for a disc is not unreasonable.

Having said that, seeing that this is a widespread problem affecting heaps of units, and having a technical background myself I would say LG and people doing their repairs should know very well by now what the problem is without getting your disc.

As I said, the problem isn’t the request itself (although I still wouldn’t hand over a disc as I’ve put a lot of time and money into my collection to just hand a disc over to a complete stranger) but the way they handled it. The fact they didn’t at any point think to ask me my permission to collect a disc (just a simple “Is it ok if we borrow a disc?” Would have been more than enough) makes me incredibly angry and makes me feel like I’m not valued as a customer. The fact they demanded a disc and then tried to blackmail me is awful.

I’m already on the case with Very to get a refund. I don’t want to keep the player if this is how LG and any repair companies they work with treat their customers (I’m already in the process of trying to sell my TV and buying a new one as I think this experience has soured me on LG for good).

Potty. DV Player For Customer Service as a Priorty.

https://m.ebay.com/itm/OPPO-DIGITAL-...&ul_noapp=true

But their PQ may or may not be as good as the LG UP970.

I got the uber bare bones version of this on BF, the UP875. Its so basic. Anyone know if there is a way into the service menu? I literally have no settings available to me.

I wouldn't mess with service menus, but the options should be available through the HOME button and settings option on the right of the screen. Playback options through the INFO button.

As much as I'd like an Oppo, I may be upgrading to the Sony X900E and that isn't Dolby Vision compatible (I'd rather sacrifice Dolby Vision for a higher peak brightness and better local dimming) so I'm better off sticking with my Samsung.

I love LG TVs, but my last set had such bad light bleed new out of the box I contacted LG. They asked for some proof, so I sent them images, but they refused to do anything as it was "within tolerances". Whose tolerance? It was bloody awful. Took it back to the shop I bought it from instead, they said they have issues with LG returns themselves but replaced the TV for me with another of the same model which has far more acceptable lighting for a LED.

They might make good TVs (when they don't have serious lightbleeding) but I think there expertise ends there. As an LG customer for years, I feel their customer service really let me down.

You must like trouble because, you'll be jumping out of the frying pan, and back into the fire. Sony has its issues too. Of all the hell that you've going through with the LG, I would think that you would want to buy the Oppo, and have a piece of mind. The price is steep, but a least you'll be getting a high quality 4K blu-ray player with Dolby Vision. It will a hell of a lot cheaper than buying 2 or 3 different brands of blu-ray players later, encountering numerous technical defects.

Up970 $149 at Best Buy. Get the 4 or 5 year Protection Replacement Plan for $30.

If Player have problem in year 2018 get a new model.
If Player have problem in year 2019 get a new model.

If Player have problem in year 2021 get a new year 2021 model. Best Buy won't have 2017 up970's to replace per BB Protection Plan. If they did then get a November, Dec 2017 built quiet model.

I've read in Forums some peoples returning OPPOs too. Guess Perfect Happiness in a Not Perfect World is a Luxury.

But Yes. 2018 new model Players are forth-coming. Tho unlikely for OPPO 203's. Think most of us on this Thread knows what we wanna try next

Rajee.

I own 3+ high end Sony Players. If I want to I can buy 3 OPPO 203's anytime. I own a LG UP970 think April 2017 built(my favorite PQ Player especially with its PaintBrush PQ Icon feature).

DV Player is a must if you have a DV TV. Even VUDU is now Streaming 139 DV movies with Atmos. And there is near 30 DV Blu disc. 2018 is going to be Explosive Happiness for DV Things.

Note Sonys TV or Players VUDU app is 1080p only. No 4K. No HDR10. No DV.

I would watch for 2018 LG Players. With DV disc, VUDU App with DV Atmos.

Be aware OPPO 203 PQ may or may not be as good as UP970. Note many OPPO Owners posting on this Thread. Ask yourself why, really why?

At this time only the OPPO 203/205 and the Cambridge Audio CXUHD players have DV. Both LG and Phillips don’t have FW updates currently available supporting DV. The Sony x800 is a better player for the money without DV. LG pulled their update in Sept that provided initial DV operation. LG players have had a slew of noisy loaders, so if you get one like that, just take it back, and get something else.

Your really bad with false information. The LG is a joke comparably. The reason we post here is to help people choose from all players out there rather then get their hopes up in believing this player is as perfect as you fib about.

I'd imagine they're perfectly content with their fantastic piece of kit ...

Default LG UP-970 :: 4K UltraHD Blu-ray player :: 'great player & great picture quality'

'it's not false information'

regardless it's weaknesses, it performed 'extremely well' (picture quality)

'the Dolby Vision picture quality is outstanding'

i do not believe it was represented as the 'perfect player' (being fair - none are - perfect)

information :: there is plenty of reliable information (remote - poor performance) - (drive noise - possible issues - random discs) - (extraordinary picture quality - DVD/HD Blu-ray/UltraHD Blu-ray/Dolby Vision, especially)

how about you be 'fair'?

'it's not a 'joke comparably', unless (apparently) one has the Oppo and an Oppo 'agenda'

or (if you get a noisy drive) you can get another 'without the noisy' drive (exchange)

then, you can have affordable 'extraordinary picture quality'

note :: several months ago, i got a noisy drive unit (Sony/Passengers - 'only opening and closing chapters') :: i exchanged it for the same unit :: no problems whatsoever

note :: i am so pleased with it that i am receiving my second unit today (repeat buyer - satisfied user)

Dolby Vision? :: without question, the LG UP-970

'without' Dolby Vision? :: the Sony UBP-X800

note :: both are 'very' affordable :: both have very good picture quality :: LG (possibility of a noisy drive & marginal remote performance) :: Sony (no Dolby Vision - 'excellent' remote usage - definitely 'well built')

in closing :: i own both :: currently i have two of the Sony :: as of today, i will also have two of the LG :: regardless of the differences, both are excellent (different reasons) :: i find myself compelled to own/use both (i would be disappointed if i had only one or the other, but if i had to, it would be the LG as Dolby vision - for myself - is essential)

I Happy with my up970 remote. With firmware update its quite Fast.
My Fav on it is the Info Button on the Right center.

It also Involkes the PaintBrush PQ Icon with its Magnificient Pic Mode Custom User Settings. With setting 2,0,1,1 HDR10 disc approaches DV PQ Like Goodness.

Granted. I would love OPPO 203 BackLit remote.

Oh. See for yourself. Up970 playing 3D disc with some PaintBrush Icon settings will blow any Videophile away. 3D PQ Absolute Magnificience. To be Seriously Honest.

What good is the “caption” button for? During playback I assume I can push it and subtitles come on. Went into settings and noticed a “caption” setting was off. I turned it on, but same result.

So what is it good for?

Looking for a 1-button click option for subtitles.

There aren't any with the LG. Quickest way is the pop-menu or INFO then SETTINGS and toggle the subtitle option you want. There isn't a direct button option.
