Default $400 for the Pioneer VSX-1018TXV-K, get it?

So I didn't want to spend $400 on a system, let alone a receiver (you won't believe how cheap I really am), but this seems like a VERY good receiver. It is on sale for boxing day at $400 at BB. Here is the link. Opinions, jump on it, or should I keep on searching for a Onkyo 606 in Canada, or another receiver all together.

If I were to buy this, I would more or less get Polk 6750's, or something similar.

Thanks.

P.S. I know me saying $400 on a system is too much is ludicrous but I don't need HD surround, I just want it.

Well, I've answered your question in the other thread you started, but I'll say it again. Go for it! That's a great receiver and a great price. I have an Onkyo 605 and the 606 is basically the same receiver with an extra hdmi. It performs wonderfully, but make no mistake...that Pioneer is a better receiver than the Onkyo, so if you can get it then do it and don't look back. I'm an Onkyo fan and a happy user, but I'd be doing you a disservice by not recommending that Pioneer. You would have to go up to an Onkyo 806 to compare to that Pioneer and of course its much more expensive than the 606.

I think they are sold out online...if anyone is successful going to a US store and getting them to price match, let us know. Hendricks - make the drive!

They just sold out before I could get there. I've been fighting between getting the Onkyo 606 but really wanting the 1018. Well I guess ill just have to wait till there's another good price or I get more money.

Too bad you couldn't pick one up. I went at 5:30am (opens at 6) and there were more than 250+ people already lined up. Luckily at 6am they let us all in and I ran to the Audio department, I got in line as quickly as possible and 25ish minutes later I was walking out with one. When I left I saw they had about 15 more just around the corner. I was freaking out thinking I wouldn't get one, but there were tons. Probably sold out quickly though.

And to the Americans, Boxing day is Canada's Black Friday. The deals aren't [I]as[I] good (I check every year) but they are still decent, like me picking this thing up for $400. I highly doubt they will price match. In fact I am nearly 100% confident they won't, sorry.

I got mine today! Finally replaced dated Panasonic SA-HE75 receiver for this Pioneer VSX 1018 for $399... Went to Best buy this morning at about 7:30 in Oshawa, wasn't too busy and they had about 8 left. Got it all set up now and it sounds great. The Automatic MCACC feature is great, came with a mic and calibrated my set up based on the acoustics of my room.... What a difference in sound! Also a Rogers HD PVR to plug into it... now for 2 more speakers to utilize the 7.1 my new receiver has to offer.

Got it yesterday! Left at 7am for the 2 hr drive and there were 4 stacks of 4 left, within another hr there was only 1 stack of 4 left. Also got a speaker system to go with because of the good deals (Klipsch F1 towers, Klipsch RM10 Center, Polk M10 for rear).

Tried it on the PS3 last night and it worked great!

My room is fairly small only like 18' by 18' . I am thinking to just do 5.1 surround because I wouldn't know where to put 7.1 in this room. How should I set it up? Centre speaker, 2 front speakers, then 2 back? Also, are these any good? Or I am thinking buy these, then buy a sub seperate.

I want tallboys for the 2 front speakers, but don't want to spend a min. of $150 on each. If I were to buy any of the two I listed, how do I set up those small speakers to be my front speakers? Mount them on the wall beside my tv?
