Default Bundles not upgrading to 4K

I have been going round and round with Apple Technical support for weeks on an issue where some purchased titles were not upgrading to 4K.
All the titles were either purchased as part of a bundle or were an original XML code that had been upgraded to HD.
They finally came back and told me that this is working as expected even though I pointed out it was not documented anywhere that a purchase in a bundle is treated differently from a regular purchase. The standard response is always just to submit feedback after spending about 50 hours, going through a dozen advisors, numerous chats and emails. I am extremely disappointed how Apple has handled the whole 4K upgrade fiasco.

What do you mean by bundles? One iTunes code that grants multiple movies? I ask because was planning on buying a few bundle sets for iTunes to get the 4K upgrade like X-Men 6 Movie Set.

I cannot speak about bundles, but XML codes that were upgraded to HD through Movies Anywhere sadly makes sense. Your purchase history still lists these titles as SD... Movies Anywhere gave you an HD upgrade, not Apple.

Are you talking about bundles purchased through iTunes or bundles purchased outside of iTunes?

The lack of specificity in this regarding titles makes it impossible for anyone to help you.

Exactly. They mentioned XML codes along with bundles. So they’re having problems with both? Because XML codes won’t be upgraded to 4K, so that problem isn’t a problem. Those only upgrade to HD. Not sure about the bundle issue. I’ve heard someone else share that problem. I guess the bundle purchase doesn’t show up as 4K in your purchase history. Hopefully that gets fixed. Most iTunes issues do get fixed, though.

I am talking about bundles purchased directly in Itunes such as trilogies or collections that involve one purchase that includes multiple movies. Itunes has stated to me that the individual titles in these will NOT be upgraded to 4K.

Whoah. That's bonkers. I hope that's just a misinformed rep cause I can see that being a major issue for some people, myself included.

I think this only applies outside of iTunes.… I purchased THE CONJURING bundle to get the first film in 4K (the sequel is HD only) and it plays as such on my ATV 4K, but does not show up as UHD on VUDU, for example.

I had issues with Ghostbusters / Ghostbusters 2 as well as Hangover movies that were purchased as part of bundles. They were not upgraded to 4K and I filed a ticket with Itunes support and this is the response I got:

This is expected behavior for bundled items and means the items are performing as expected by not upgrading to 4K. If you would like to, please submit your feedback here regarding this:

Interesting… I did notice bundles are listed as HD only, so perhaps I got lucky! I owned an HD copy of THE CONJURING ported over from VUDU prior to buying the bundle, and confirmed 4K playback from the ATV drop down menu. But after realizing those 4K rights don't port out, I've sworn off iTunes bundles altogether.

Weird, my Harry Potter ones upgraded as did The Bourne Trilogy. Maybe it's just select ones?

The sequel isn’t 4K anywhere. I bought the sequel by itself on iTunes last year. It hasn’t been upgraded for me either. No 4K tag. I’m surprised only the first film is 4K. Not sure why, but maybe that’ll change.

That's extra BS since the ones that ARE in 4K already DO come as 4K when you buy them. How is it OUR fault that Apple doesn't have them in 4K yet? We're to be punished for doing them a favor and buying them NOW? I've (rightly) assumed that buying in HD on iTunes NOW means getting 4K when it becomes available. It shouldn't matter if it was part of a bundle or not.

I did notice that my Ghostbusters I upgraded to 4K when it became available but my Ghostbusters II has not yet (it only recently became available in 4K). I actually have TWO copies of Ghostbusters II showing on iTunes (think one was a bundle and the other was not). NEITHER are 4K yet.

They gave me the first two Harry Potters in 4K even though I bought the extended version (even sent me an email letting me know since the extended ones would probably never be in 4K, they were giving me the theatrical versions in 4K). That was nice. Not upgrading Ghostbusters II is not. I bought the Die Hard complete collection thinking they would get upgraded in time (only the first one is in 4K so far). Now I'm thinking I probably got ripped. And yes, it only said "HD" for the Die Hard "bundle" but the 1st movie was available in 4K and the 4K one is the one I got after I bought the bundle (i.e. I thought the stupid GUI simply doesn't reflect multi-packs with one icon when they aren't all in 4K. I don't think it even shows a 4K icon when they are ALL in 4K already (but if they are, you get the 4K versions). Why therefore, they wouldn't upgrade later is beyond me. It sounds like someone screwed up at Apple and the lower level people have no clue or power (typical of Apple, the $1 TRILLION company that gets greedy over nickel and dime things like USB dongles that cost a fortune).

Last year when the the Vacation 5-Film Collection was on sale for $14.99 in was Vacation 4k at the time? I know that it upgraded to 4k last year but I don't remember if it was already 4k when I purchased or if it upgraded to 4k shortly after the sale ended? Vacation is 4k in my account and I bought the bundle last year when it was on sale for $14.99. Also I think Apple should make it easy for customers to upgrade for a small price like $4.99 an existing movie in their account to 4k as it becomes available for those movies that are not eligible for free 4k upgrades, such as movies in HD not purchased through iTunes but ported over to iTunes. I know that you can gift yourself a movie to upgrade to 4k but I heard that you can't use store credit for gifting to yourself and MA won't recognize the upgrade to a 4k license if you do it that way.

I bought the Mission Impossible bundle before the upgrade and all 5 films have now been bumped to 4k.
I also bought some of the 10 movie bundles and those have slowly been becoming 4k one at a time.
Have they put info about the 4k upgrades in their T+Cs anywhere? I’d look for that, and if you can find it, quote it.
