First I have to let you all know that I am so new to the Home Audio gig but I am learning and I like it. I just bought a Panasonic BD35 and after finding this forum I am thinking I should have bought the BD55 but here is my question.
I have an old DENON AVR-1600 reciever. Since my Blu-Ray player does not have multi-channel connections I am using a TOSLINK cable. What should I set my audio setting to Bitstream or PCM so confused on this. I only have a 5.1 setup at my home and I would like to get the best audio as possible without having to buy a new receiver. If anyone could help me on this I would appreciate it. Thanks |

Thanks for the quick reply I was afraid someone was going to tell me to send it back and get the other one. Here is a question that I am fairly sure is dumb but I have to ask. Since the player has HDMI, My TV has HDMI does someone make a converter type box that would have an HDMI connection for my TV, and HDMI connection for the player and then multi-channel outs so I could hook that up to the receiver.

I am still debating on whether to take this back or not. The problem for me to take this back is that the best buy store is over an hour away for me to drive and they don't have the other blu-ray player in stock so I would have to wait until they ordered it. So my questions is this. What am I truly missing as far as sound. I have the bd player hooked to my receiver with an optical cable and it sounds pretty good to me so what am I truly missing here.
thanks |

always, when using an Optical cable set it to Bitstream (secondary audio off)
Me personally, since you've already gone out of your way and spent a lot of money already... You have a great Bluray player. Unfortunately the receiver/player combo does not reach full potential. I would just keep what you have, no sense going out of your way just to trade in solely for analog inputs. Use the optical cable for the time being (still great sound!)...and save up for a newer receiver down the road. ![]() |

Some people notice the difference others don't.
My wife notices no difference, however, I feel that the HD audio offers a wider sound stage. I feel the details is far clearer and the lows far deeper. IMO, it is a world of difference. YMMV. |

I've got the half remains of a HTIB that I'm almost done upgrading, and the receiver is next. I've been running optical audio from PS3 to receiver as that's the only option I have for decent sound. To this day, I don't even know what Dolby True HD or DTS Master even sound like compared to what I have. I truely enjoy the setup I have, but KNOW that I'm missing out "big-time". Keep what you have, upgrade receiver behind wifes back (I'm working on that), and you'll be fine.
