I have a Samsung JS8500 which is one of the earlier models. I'm not sure how the KS series upscaling is, but try comparing when you get the chance!

I generally prefer the player to do the upscale, yeah. I mean there's only a gnat's chuff between them but the player(s) usually stand out as being that bit sharper.

I have a Samsung UE49KU6400 a Series 6 European 49'' 4K HDR set and I find its upscaling much better than the one done by the Sony X-800 which I've owned for 7 months. First of all, I have Sharpness set to 20 on the Samsung T.V. for all inputs and settings, with that in mind I find Sony's X-800 upscaling looking soft, upscaling done by the Samsung T.V. looks sharper and it's not something subtle, I tested this with my 72 years old mother who doesn't anything about this matters, I just asked her "what picture you like best?". The one she chose was the upscaled by the Samsung T.V.

So has anyone had any problem with "screen cast" or what ever its called?
I tried to get it to screen cast some Youtube vids last night from both my tablet which is a cheap RCA but it serves its purpose as well as my Galaxy S8 phone and I never could get it to work. Both of my devices recognized the player but when I clicked for it to "cast" it never would go through. I've never had a problem with being able to cast to my 55 inch HDTV upstairs so I know its not my tablet/phone. |

Just got a multiregion X800 and very happy with it! Looks great paired up with my Panasonic 952 OLED. I already had an Xbox One X which looks great with 4K too mind. Thanks for all the comments here from various people. This player is like a tank compared to my cheap old one!

4K TVs (3,840 x 2,160-pixel resolution) with passive 3D can still deliver greater than HD resolution in 3D, @ 3,840 x 1,080 pixels per eye.
Can 4K BR players do it too? I think so. Last edited by LordoftheRings; 12-03-2017 at 01:08 AM. |

Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 2 looked especially great. I noticed a lot more depth in all the scenes. Now I'm waiting for my Valerian and Terminator 2 3D steelbooks to show up. I went with a modded region free model since more and more North American 3D titles aren't getting released and some end up region locked from other countries. And yes.....3D on a passive 4K screen looks absolutely stunning. This is how 3D should have been from the get go. Had it been I'm sure every manufacturer would still be supporting it. |

The point is that the displays will upscale because they have to, but the players will not and cannot because there's no unified standard for 4K 3D transmission and playback just yet - you can't output an arbitrary "4K 3D" signal if you don't know what the TV can handle. The bandwidth of HDMI itself is not a problem, if you can squirt 4K60 2D down the pipe then that's more than enough for 4K24 3D (same goes for future 4K120 2D, that's 4K60 3D sorted), it's the packing and the signalling of that 4K 3D signal which is the wider issue here. Once some kind of "UHD 3D" display & disc standard is laid down then we'll know more, if it's frame packed like 3D BD then that would be a 3840x4410 signal (2x 2160 + 90 blanking lines) which the newer players & TVs will know how to decompress and display correctly. Yeah, some people are sending homebrew over/under 3840x2160 signals to TVs and whatnot but that's not the same thing as a unified standard, and until that's in place I doubt you'll see a 4K 3D upscaling feature on players. |

Thx, I understand; it depends of the TV.
