I got Forgetting Sarah Marshall today from Best Buy, so I decided to end the night by watching it since I had never seen it. So, almost an hour into the movie, it started pausing and everything became pixelated and it struggled to continue, so there was obviously a problem with the disc. I immediately got pissed and opened up my player. I took out the BD and noticed a big scratch across the side of the disc. It's impossible that I did it myself because as soon as I opened up the case I safely took out the disc and popped it into my player and hit close. I'm really disappointed as this has never happened to me before with a new product.
So, I hope Best Buy will let me get a replacement for it because now I can't even finish the movie and I was beginning to like it. ![]() Anybody ever experience something like this? |

I haven't had this happen with a Blu-Ray yet, but I've had a DVD or two that has had problems like this.
I don't think you should have and problem exchanging it at Best Buy. They will likely make you exchange it for another copy of the same movie, but it should be fine. I've had defective discs that I've taken back before, and they let me exchange it for another copy. One time I bought a DVD, and I could tell when I bought it that the disc had come loose inside of the case. But it was a DVD that I really wanted and it was the last copy in the store. I gambled with it because sometimes they come loose like that, but when you open them up, there's no actual damage. Well, in this case, the disc was scratched, and rather badly. I went back to Best Buy, went to customer service, showed the guy the disc and showed him my receipt, which proved I had just bought the DVD. If I recall correctly, in that case, they let me take store credit since they were out of other copies. Keep in mind that they won't normally do this if there is another copy in stock. Another time I re-bought a movie on DVD that I already owned, but it had newer/slightly updated packaging, and is specifically said on the back of box that it was an anamorphic transfer, and my original copy wasn't anamorphic, nor did the box specify that it was. I figured maybe they came out with an updated version. Well, I get the thing home, open it up, pop it in, and find that it's the exact same edition that I already had, and was not anamorphic. So, I came to the conclusion that they hadn't updated the movie, itself, and they probably put some current standard-issue info on the back, with whoever was in charge of this not realizing that the movie wasn't anamorphic. So, I took the movie back to Best Buy a day or two later, and I politely explained my dilemma to the girl at the customer service desk. I said that I understand when exchanging a DVD, they usually require you exchange it for a copy of the same movie, but that in this case, it's not that the disc was truly 'defective', but the info on the box describing what I was getting was inaccurate, and I would have the same problem if I were to take another copy. She said that she couldn't give me a refund or anything like that, but if I wanted to get a different DVD, that would be fine. And luckily it was a Tuesday and I was already planning on getting some new DVDs that had come out that day anyway, so it all worked out in the end. The point is that if you take it back, they should take care of you on some level. If they do give you a hard time for any reason, just push back a little and they should help you out. But really, if they have more copies in stock and if you just want to get a new, non-scratched copy, then you should have no trouble. |

ah this happened to me not long back. I got a copy of Dawn Of The Dead(the remake) and when i was watching the movie it gets to a point and pauses then pixelizes and skips. Definately know that my ps3 is not the problem just when i looked at the disc, the disc looked like a part of it chipped off or something. I just took it back and asked the customer service worker if i can possibly exchange it for another copy and he kindly let me. If you show your receipt, you'll be fine.

Made in Mexico.
From my experience Universal has had CQ problems with their DVD's and HD-DVD's but so far their Blu-rays have been good to me... I'm hoping it stays this way ![]() I really wish you the best of luck with this one, we're talking about Worst-Buy's customer service after all ![]() Last edited by saginawjuggalo; 12-27-2008 at 09:54 AM. |

Got halfway through Death Race last night and it freezes up and goes back to the first three minutes of the movie. Tried it a few times, no scratches, etc. so taking it back for another today.
I don't like the way the Universal discs go to and come out of that screensaver logo when you pause so I think there may be something in how they're producing them. Especially since Sarah Marshall and Dawn of the Dead are two of the ones people mentioned above. |

I bought a Blu-Ray that had a mastering mistake [Chronos], but that got taken care of. Awesome folks there, and awesome eye candy.
[ add / edit ] Ah! No, one of the heroes discs had a 15 second jump in it too. Was a rental though, my retail purchase was fine, so I'm just going to chop that one to wear and tear. |
