got a new receiver, still same issue, this one came with a blu-ray in the package so im certain it should play the audio, is there any chance the HDMI cord i have is only meant to carry video?

(simple minds avoid the next part, its confusing)

other than that the only thing i can figure is that since my video output from the receiver to the tv is HDMI-DVI then its blocking the audio signal from reaching the receiver in the first place. and remember i explained im not trying to get audio to the tv so i dont think this should affect it
