I particularly enjoyed this bit:

Quote:
Two blockbuster films - "Spider-Man 3," from Sony and "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" from Disney - will be available exclusively on Blu-ray.

The HD DVD camp will be counting on sales of the blockbuster film "300," from Warner Bros., which will be released in both formats, and the first season of the popular sci-fi TV show "Heroes," which will be available exclusively on HD DVD.

I was just coming back to post that.

Let's see how many major media outlets report the good news....

If Ken Graffeo worked for me he'd be s*itcanned in about a week. What a moron. Absolutely no perspective of the big picture whatsoever, and he flat out insults people by saying that they'll pretty much buy any raggedy product if it's cheap enough. He fails at life.

It will be interesting if this gives other retailers, especially those that also sell discs, the political comfort to solve their shelf space problem.

I agree. With all the poor decisions pooring out of Universal...I say a higher-up puts the blame on the shoulders of the individual responsible for most of these poor decisions--ol Ken--and then commence with the Blu-ray switch and get this thing over with.

We all got to thank Blockbuster for this one. They are the first major corp that is not part of the BDA to see the light and back BD exclusively in their HD expansion. Target saw Netflix's numbers going down the toilet and Blockbuster doing better after the announcement and decided to jump on the bandwagon. Target is seeing BD as the winning format and BD got some more free publicity on CNN and other news channels yet again

Hopefully the general public is realizing this is different than the VHS vs Betamax war, or the unfortunate failure of the UMD. Times have changed, consumers are no longer just wanting the cheapest products, but quality and selection. BD has both.

This is truly a glorious day for Blu-ray. HD DVD, perhaps today is a good day to die

Sidenote: I wonder if they can make BD in UMD and release PSP2 for high def viewing. I gotta tell ya, I own quite a few movies on UMD as well and they saved my life from the boring in-flight movies or long car trips. I think UMD was a great idea, unfortunately Sony made the mistake of not letting the general public having ways to make our own copies of things on UMD, that caused the demise of UMD IMO. I wouldve paid good money for a USB or Internal UMD burner so I can use it as a storage device on my PSP for umm... stuff
