Movie looks promising; reminds me of Ghost in the Shell.
While the characters look very much like CGI, hopefully all of their main movements are motion captured for more realism, and the possibly strong stereo 3D effect makes the CGI more realistic. Nice to see the 3D info at the end of the trailer. Cool. Rodriguez is a fan of 3D as seen in his Spykids films. |

Not a big fan of Rodriguez's films but I admire his willingness to experiment. He's keen on pushing the medium forward, and is always an early adopter of new tech. Teaming with Cameron could be the best move he's ever made. My gut tells me they're going to make this a 3-D event, something that has to be seen on the big screen in stereo, like Avatar was. Hope it's worth the wait. The trailer looks...promising.

Yowsa!! Really excited to see this become a reality. It was years ago that Cameron first said he was working on Alita. I just figured he had moved on. Trailer looks like a great mix of CGI and reality. And 3D?!?!?!? Always thrilled to get a 3D film that might show what the format can really do!!

It does give the girl an unnatural look, of course it's not supposed to be a real human being. In the fictional universe of the film, I presume whoever created the robot gave it enlarged eyes to make the product more commercial. I find the character very expressive and engaging. My only criticism is that at times she appears to have stepped out of a videogame, rather than a physically real presence.
I'd been aware of this film as something supposedly in the works for many years now, but I didn't have the slightest interest. Getting a taste of it now, it seems very promising indeed. Ghost in the Shell was visually and conceptually interesting, but I found it a bit style over substance. This looks like a more accessible take on similar material. Definitely more than a blip on my radar now, I'll aim to see it opening weekend. |

As Avatar's Na'vi characters proved, as well as the CGI Gollum from Lord of the Rings, convincing actor and motion capture performances can bring CGI characters to life, as hopefully will be the case with Alita.
If this was filmed in 3D, it could be a preview of the stronger 3D Cameron wishes to show off in Avatar 2's 3D, saying that he didn't push the 3D in Avatar far enough. |

The movie looks very striking, especially those eyes! Good casting too. Hopefully more native 3D from Rodriguez. The original Japanese OAV is great. Recommended for anime fans.
