no you can turn it off which reverts to standard 60 hz refresh rate. or you can activate 120hz in three diff settings. low med high. or OFF. on the new Samsung sets at least. and watching a blu-ray on 120hz is just personal preference. depending on the movie and picture settings. it can make a difference in pq. it just depends on what you like. i have the 24fps turned off on my player, and i promise that my set up is top notch, and pq/aq are close to perfect.
