Look on the back of the Blu Ray where it gives the video specs and you will see that the Theatrical aspect ratio is 2:40:1 and IMAX are 1:78:1.
The O.P. says that he's getting full screen for the IMAX portions but the rest is 1.85:1 not 2.40:1.

O.P., do your other 2.40:1 movies look correct? 1.78 (the Imax portion) and 1.85 should look virtually identical. If you're getting black bars at the top/bottom then you're probably seeing 2.40:1. Unless of course you're settings are set for pan/scan.

Here's a trick. An American dollar has an approximate dimension of 2.35:1 Hold it up against the picture and if they're similar than you're seeing it in the correct ratio. It's a trick we use at theatres to see if they're cropping the Cinemascope image very much.

I'm not familiar with the X2. Perhaps your BD player is not set to output 16:9 but pan/scan instead? Hope someone can help you out. Good Luck!
