Arrow Zack Snyder wants to do Dark Knight Returns movie

WB would be out of their mind to go anywhere outside of Nolan, but what if Nolan decided that 2 was it (or that no more after a trilogy). I think Zack Snyder would be a pretty good choice (Director of 300 and Watchmen). I realize that it's most likely not going to happen, and Snyder was probably talking off the cuff, but it's cool to think about it. Loved the Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller!

Quote:
MOVE over Christopher Nolan - Watchmen director Zack Snyder says he has his eye on a future Batman movie.

Snyder, whose Watchmen is due out in March, is interested in adapting Frank Miller's comic book series The Dark Knight Returns.

The four-issue 1986 storyline - ranked among the best Batman tales - is set after Bruce Wayne retires from the crimefighter role, following the death of the second Robin, Jason Todd.

After crime sweeps Gotham, Wayne is forced to assume the superhero role once again, with the help of a new Robin. Dramatic events unfold featuring archvillains Two-Face and the Joker and fellow superheroes Green Arrow and Superman.

Snyder told IF Magazine: "I'm interested in Frank Miller's [graphic novel] The Dark Knight Returns. That's really my favourite comic book."

But he acknowledged that the chances of it getting made while there is an existing film franchise, with Nolan directing and Christian Bale in the lead role, are rather unlikely.

He said: "The studio has this massive franchise and I don't think they'll let me make a Batman movie where he's 50 years old and Ronald Reagan is president."

He would be a good choice to replace Nolan if he wasn't going to return.

I agree he would be a good choice and The Dark Knight Returns would be a good story for him to do.

I always liked Batman: Year One but that wouldn't be a sequel, that would make for a good reboot down the line though.

But I'm all for Snyder IF Nolan will not come back. It's an exciting idea.

Sounds like a great idea, but not until the current iteration of the franchise runs its course. Once the series that began with Batman Begins comes to an end, then it's fair game!

I'm not sure why he named the Regan thing as an issue though. That's an easy tidbit to get around. My biggest concern would be the Superman factor. It seems like it would be a longshot to allow his appearance to go down as is. And that's assuming that they'd even allow his appearance to happen. You know how the suits are.

they've already done that with batman begins and to some degree the dark knight. i don't think they'll reboot batman again. that would be a bad idea. one reboot is about all the public can/will deal with.

Watchmen is looking great so Snyder seems like a solid choice. Plus The Dark Knight Returns novel is amazing. However, without Nolan, I doubt it could ever be as good. He is driving force behind what makes Begins and TDK so darn good. Personally, I would rather see Nolan do a third than Snyder take over but if he stays very true to Millar's original work, the movie could be great.

Oh and I have to agree with Ator in how could they bring Superman into the movie; I know they own the rights but I doubt WB would ever let two of their biggest franchises into one film just in case the movie bombs.

Nolan was a huge part of why TDK was so good. I would be very sad if he decides not to do a third Batman.

Don't expect a Batman reboot for at least another 20 years or so, maybe in and around 2025-30 or something,

oh i know. i don't expect one at all. i think it'd be stupid if they did and would end the franchise.

For those not in the know "The Dark Knight Returns" has nothing to do with the current Dark Knight movie.

It's set in the future where superheroes have been outlawed and Batman is in his fifties. He grows tired of the crime that has taken over and decides to come back. The Joker then comes back since Batman has and also at one point Superman who is working for the government is sent to stop Batman.

Oh yeah, and I didnt read the whole first post and realize that I just repeated what it just said.

It would be silly to make this. The average movie goer would be confused and this would be followed with a lot of mixed reviews of the movie no matter how good the movie maybe.

If Nolan wins best director which i think he will then a third Nolan movie will be on the way and the end of of his trilogy.

Expect the next Batman trilogy 5 years after i say.

Dawn of The Dead wasn't slow, nor do i see the watchmen from the trailers. Though if we ever see the Watchmen, that is a different story.

Only 300 had slow mo moments and it was done well .. it fit the movie. I mean maybe a bit too much but I think Snyder is smart enough to not use that same effect much again. I mean most action movies uses slo-mo to an extent.

Agreed. I bet I'd like it, and so would other nerds, but it would completely tank and be rated one of the "biggest letdowns" of whatever year it comes out.
