The description says it has a 40 page detachable collectors book. Interesting...

Even though I don't have a 4K set up I will get the 4K disc nonetheless. Because the Blu-ray will get stuck with a damn 7.1 DTS MA track unfortunately, while the 4K will get a shiny new Dolby Atmos track.

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi is the first newer film of the franchise that does not seem like a mere nostalgia trip, and it is the first one since 1980 that has surprised me. There are several nods to the original trilogy, but this film subverts that mythology and turns it upside down without betraying the core essence that made those older movies great. This is the cinematic equivalent of burning an agricultural field to the ground so that it will grow better crops next time. My optimism about the future of the Star Wars movies at the hands of Disney has never been greater, and, to borrow one of its most iconic quotes, I feel that this movie may truly have the sparks that will light a fire.

I probably speak for several other Star Wars fans when I say that I often wondered in the past what made the Empire “bad” and the Rebellion “good.” Last year's standalone film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, marvelously introduced complexities into the fold to show us that the good guys do not always behave in decent ways. As such, my favorite aspect of The Last Jedi is that, of all of the films in the series, it makes the most insightful observations about the genuine nature of goodness, about the importance of selflessness over arrogance, and about the precedence that saving others takes over reckless heroism.

The Last Jedi has some of the most jaw-dropping action scenes of the entire series to date. The Star Wars movies have always been indebted to the Japanese samurai films that were directed by Akira Kurosawa and to the American westerns that were directed by the likes of John Ford, but this latest entry easily tops its recent predecessors in terms of incorporating the grandiose visual styles of the battle scenes and showdowns from those classics. One fight sequence that takes place against a red background is a miracle of modern cinematography, and it gives us what is perhaps the coolest light saber kill scene in Star Wars history. You will know exactly which moment I am talking about when you see it.

This film rightly places the focus on younger characters. Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac), and Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) are now blessed with a script that allows them to stand on their own feet and command our undivided attention. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher), and other familiar faces, however, are given plenty of moments to shine, and one particular moment of dialogue will bring tears to the eyes of anyone who grew up watching them.

If I had to make one criticism, then I would say that some of the attempts at humor come across as forced, and that the film often tries too hard to shake off the gravitas of certain scenes by dismissing it in slapstick style. While I love that this movie does not take itself or the Star Wars mythology too seriously, it sometimes veers a little too closely to self-parody. As I'm fond of saying in my reviews, however, this is a minor grievance.

The Last Jedi is the longest movie of the Star Wars franchise, but its two hours and 32 minutes fly by at lightning pace. I'm still processing my thoughts about this film and about its place in the series, but I can say with conviction that it has my highest recommendation simply because it provides one of the most thrilling rollercoaster rides that you will see this year. From the beginning, the main goal of the Star Wars films has been to capture the spirit of the wildly fun matinee movies of decades past, and this one accomplishes that goal with flying colors.

I'll have to see what this actually looks like before deciding if this is ther version I get.

I ended up not getting any of the store exclusives for The Force Awakens.The Target Exclusive for that was digital extras which I don't go for.The extras have to be on disk.Plus I didn't like the cardboard packaging.

I ended up going with the standard release since I liked the poster art and black case.

And I still ended up getting the Target exclusive extras since I did a rare double dip and got the 3D release(which Disney was up fornt and said was coming before the first release came out).

I did get the Rogue One Target exclusive release.

So I'll see what this Target exclusive looks like before deciding.

you are one of the few. ...I'll pass on this..well maybe 5.99 Bestbuy bin.It will probably look and sound great on disc. I wish I had drink en what you did b4 entering the theater. If the first hour was any slower, and that god awful phony looking light sabre fight on a cheap soundstage with red lighting...geez.Oh well this is more for the movie discussion thread.

Buy at your own risk....hey whatever happened to those disposable discs?

Without revealing spoilers, I'll say that the red chamber fight scene was my favorite sequence of the whole movie.

It hard to post a review without giving away some kind of spoilers, I mean it’s Star Wars, which is why I’ve avoided reviews until after I see the film. The Force Awakens was average to me but then again I’m no die hard fan.

What a great time for Star Wars fans...well some of them...getting new films each year! The Disney deal opens up numerous possibilities for the previously released films. I couldn’t be happier!

One of the retailers may do a 3D exclusive like they did for Rogue One.

Yep. Thor: Ragnarok and TLJ have not been officially announced yet. Until they are, from Disney/Marvel, I won't give up hope.

But, if they don't pull an Episode VII, hopefully the 3D disc will be available day-and-date overseas if it's not here.
