Default PS3 BD Remote

Hi, I bought a BD remote for PS3 but it doesn't seem to do anything, I start a DVD or Blu-ray Disc and press all the buttons on the remote and nothing happens. I checked and replaced the batteries.

Is there something I should have done to enable the PS3 to work with it, or sync it with the PS3 or something like that, or is it just broken?

You have to go to the accessory settings on your PS3 and sync it. Good luck.

Yeah, it needs to be synched. It is a pretty good remote, my non-techy wife can use it much easier than the PS3 controller.

God, it was a nightmare trying to explain the controller from my car cell phone on my way to basketball one night. "Press the PS3 button in the middle to activate the controller"

"The dead-center button!" "AAAAHHHH"

"Give me the 3 year old please, I will walk her through it"

I must have missed something cause I don't understand the purpose of this "extra" remote ? In case some people did not notice, the PS3 game pad acts as a remote. You control your movies with it, stop, rewind, skip, fastforward, play and so on with it. Even special features like PiP and others can be controlled with the game pad. It's really a remote in itself.

Yeah i find the game controller much easier to use myself because your fingers naturally fall to known buttons and you don't need to look ... but the remote was necessary for the wife.

I picked up the remote mainly for convenience. I hate having to keep my controller(s) running while watching a movie or listening to music, in addition to playing games (my sons drain the controllers fast). To me, the fewer the charges the better. I do have the controller auto-power-off option enabled, but having to power up the controller started to annoy me. I also picked up a 12' USB extension for those times my sons left the controllers dead, but that got old fast. I do also have an infrared usb adapter, but those lack a PS function for obvious reasons. I initially intended to buy one of those external charger deals, but for the price and knowing that it will also require my boys to be diligent about docking the controllers when finished, the PS3 remote was a much simpler solution.

And having spent some (pre-PS3) time with a similar controller in hand, I'm fairly comfortable with it; my wife is not.

It's handy having dedicated buttons. The Audio button is a personal favorite---using it in concert with the the Select button's display, I can toggle to the proper audio track (on BDs that don't default to lossless) without having to navigate either top set-up or pop-up menus before the producing studio's credit has rolled.

i have a question for you guys though. its kinda on the subject of the OP. do you guys ever have problems when you turn on your ps3 nothing will sync to it?? there are many times when i turn on my ps3 and nothing will work. none of the controllers sync. they just keep flashing. my BD remote wont work. and tonight the official headset wouldnt work either for the first time. usually, if i turn the system off and back on, they will work. its just so damn annoying!

The only problem with using the SixAxis/Dual Shock 3 to control movies is that it's easy to accidentally hit the shoulder buttons to fast forward/rewind, even when you're just setting the controller down.

Other than that, I have no issues using the controller (hence why I use my PS3 BD remote when watching Blu-rays).

i got the bd remote for 2 reason. i hate draining my controller's battery for no reason. therefore, i have to turn it on and wait to do something like pause a movie and then turn it off again. also, the fast forward and rewind shoulder buttons are hit accidentally all the time.

i play music and use life with playstation all the time. i almost never play games on my ps3.
