Small correction, it was originally out on DVD by Anchor Bay, not Hen's Tooth.

You are correct. Anchor Bay put it out first then Hen's Tooth re-released it later on.

Anyone know of a retailer shipping copies of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 with slips still? I can't even find one copy with a slip on ebay. It's so irritating.

He will either put out his own version or die and then we can get them. It's extremely unfortunate but that's why we don't have either of those in a beautiful speacial edition.

To even screen Dawn of the Dead theatrically you have to pay a stupid amount. Most of the retro screenings done in the US are of the Italian or European cut just to circumvent Rubinsteins stupid fees.
Heard about it, but then how the hell could Anchor Bay, Lionsgate and Arrow release them on DVD years ago? Rubinstein was more sensible back then?

With the numbers that DVD's moved it's possible he asked for the same fee back then and companies had no problem footing the bill since a huge amount of sales were guaranteed. With Blu Ray however we all know the sales won't approach what the dvd did so it may just be a matter of what worked before won't work now due to the fact that there just isn't as much guaranteed return.

It's also worth noting that a significant amount of money went into converting the film to 3D years ago and that any licensing of the film now may have to help re-coup some of those costs. Hell for all we know maybe Rubinstein is requiring anyone that licenses the film to release it in 3d in addition to 2d which would also have it's own problems and costs.

Does Scream Factory still have a deal with 20th Century Fox? I'd love to see them release the 1991 TV movie The Haunted starring Sally Kirkland and Jeffrey DeMunn on Blu-ray. The film depicts the events surrounding the Smurl haunting. The Smurl Haunting refers to claims made by Jack and Janet Smurl of West Pittston, Pennsylvania, who alleged that a demon inhabited their home between 1974 and 1989. It's one of the creepiest supernatural/haunted house films I've ever seen.

I own a huge chunk of the staple horror movies.... I even managed to land My Bloody Valentine, but it pisses me off that I don't have Dawn on blu ray. It looks like I'll probably have to pay 40-60 bucks or not get it at all on blu ray. I do have the DVD.

Yeah, wasting north of one million dollars converting it to 3D has to the reason why his price is so high. It’s a shame - too bad there was nobody to talk him out of doing something so shortsighted.

Just think how cool it will be to see the film in 3D in (3 - 25) years when 3D returns.

A Quiet Place in the Country

Blind-buy based on the reviews I read on other sites. Quiet Place has Franco Nero as an eccentric avant-garde artist who insists on moving into a crumbling villa for his work and grows obsessed with a woman that was killed in it. Vanessa Redgrave is his pragmatic girlfriend-manager who oversees the commercial aspects of his life. The film seems loosely based on Oliver Onions' classic ghost story The Beckoning Fair One and may also be inspired in its design by Jack Clayton's The Innocents. In turn I seem to see inspirations from this film in Pupi Avati's House with the Laughing Windows. While the plot is fairly straight-forward the film is shot with the sort of jump-cuts and visual juxtapositions that Nicholas Roeg became more famous for. It's not done as well as Roeg's acclaimed films but Quiet Place is a solid entry in the arty horror genre. Shout Factory give a nice organic looking presentation of the film on blu-ray, with a choice of lossless English and Italian stereo tracks. I chose English because most of the cast appeared to be mouthing their lines in that language. Ennio Morricone's atonal score is served well by the audio. Extras include a half-hour interview with Franco Nero and a commentary from Troy Howarth.

I have vague recollections of The Haunted but don't believe I've ever seen it and I gotta ask: Who stays in a house allegedly haunted by a demon for 15 years?!? Still, I love an effective ghost story and will certainly seek it out.

Just wanted to add a heads-up to any fellow Amazon Prime members that I've found a veritable treasure trove of obscure and cult horror titles streaming for free. I finally caught such films as Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things, The Slumber Party Massacre, the 1972 Asylum, and Vampyres. I saw my first Jean Rollin film (and must confess to turning it off as I was undone by the combination of amateurishness and sheer boredom). Lots of 70's and 80's slasher flicks and Euro Horror...should certainly get me through the winter if they don't rot my mind first!

If anyone has access to TCM on-demand content they have 1981's He Knows You're Alone available until the 7th, notable for the film debut of Tom Hanks.

Scream's imminent announcements for April (hopefully beginning today) will be interesting, given the slate is now clear (Piranha II aside). MisterLime said a while ago that some MGM titles - Doctor Blood's Coffin, Daughters of Satan, The Falling and Screamtime - had been licenced, so I can't help but think at least a couple of these are coming from Scream.

Thanks, Target and UPS.
I know it get a lot of hate around here but Final Exam is one of the best slashers.

I wish SF and Code Red could work together again.

Got my Christmas order in today. Although despite ordering directly from Scream, I think I still got the uncorrected Child's Play because I couldn't find the "V2" indicator anywhere on the disc. Something's wrong with the 2.0 track, right?

I love Psycho II so much. SF did a great job with this release.
