I think we are far too concerned with breaking down figures when in fact we should be concerned with actually watching the movies. We are not making one cent on these so let the producers worry about which movies do best.

What theater do you go to where they are not strict about bringing in outside food and beverages? The one's in my area don't allow them at all and you have to sneak them in and hope an usher doesn't catch you with it in the screening rooms or you'll be asked to throw it out or leave.

You could produce one Fireproof-budget-sized film for each day of the year with TDK's budget. You'd only need 9 of them to match Fireproof's gross to beat TDK's gross. As an investor, would you rather risk losing $500K or $185 million?
I understand I was just making a point (maybe a bit of a stretch). The fact that TDK was more of a risk and still came out with way more profit makes it even more successful in my book. If anything it shows high budget movies can still make a lot.. and that is good for everyone. Anyway, regardless of risk/return.. you never know what a movie will make until it's out and the movie that makes the most money is the most successful in my opinion. I think it's worth pointing out Twilight had a good cost/return ratio and I think it IS a good thing but the Yahoo guy is over rating its value compared to a true blockbuster.

The box office charts are nice but today it's about dvd/blu-ray sales when the films leave the box office. Twilight and some of the other more profit at the box office than big budget films is that when it hits the stores it will outsale these films by huge margins.

Thus the reason for all the extras you get on the dvd and blu-ray discs these days. Studios have found ways to rake in the cash outside of the box office. Imagine that.

yep, that's why movies nowadays go from big screen to home in a very short period of time... i remember 5 or so years ago.. you had to wait a good year for a movie at the theaters to be released on dvd..

It doesn't matter because Twilight was crap anyway. It's unoriginal

I went and saw Twilight with my wife. It was bad. With the exception of the baseball scene it was all horribly unoriginal. TDK is obviously the better movie, but i sure can appreciate a film that doesn't cost alot of money to make, but does very well at the box office. Look at Gran Torino. I bet that didn't cost alot to make, since the star is Clint himself and the other actors appear to be people he found right off the street. I have a lot of respect for directors (Hitchcock, Jarmusch, Lynch, Eastwood) who are economical and can crank out top notch stuff on a limited budget in a limited amount of time. I am in no way saying Twilight is even 1/10 as good as any of these other movies by these other directors, but still why all the hate.

I think the 2nd Twilight film will be better since they got money and can get better people to work with, I still think they need to get the actors in classes.

The dialog was Episode 2 bad.

It's a very useful thread on teaching how to spin facts and figures to give you an end result that fits what you are trynig to present. According to the multiplier Twilight IS better then TDK. It's all in the spin.

I think TDK wins.
You mean the bigger number is better? I thought movies were scored like golf.

Apparently it's scored like pinball since it only matters how high your multiplier goes.

That's impressive considering the target group for Twilight was teenage females.

Hilarious thread. I wonder what the multiplier is for the fanaticism of the fanboys/girls of the respective films.

TDK has drawn the biggest crowds, and sold the most on home video formats. I also see Dark Knight toys (and other merchandise) in the stores. Where're the Twilight action figures? I know using toys as a measurable is kinda dumb, but you know what I mean.

Went into F.Y.E. (horrible store by the way) yesterday and i saw they had Twilight merchandise. Posters, shirts, figures, everything. It's officially ridiculous now.

i thought the dark knight sucked. the only reason it did so well is because of the death of heath ledger (i dont care what anyone says its the truth).. on the other hand i did see twilight and i though it was great even for a chick flick it was a great movie
