Default Real Surround, Or just a bunch of Speakers?

What Sounds Better, Having a Surround Sound system with a few speakers near your tv, or having the speakers spread across the room?

Are you asking whether a surround system sounds better with the speakers placed where they are supposed to be placed or all placed around the TV?

That much should be blindingly obvious.

There's no such thing as "real surround" either if you're not defining the source.

The two options are redundant, because the first option makes no mention of speaker placement.

The "real surround" refers to how most people just place speakers behind/to the side of the tv, and choice 2 says to put a speaker in one corner of the room, another in another corner, and so on. God. It can't be that hard to figure. The post explains them at least.

I'm not understanding what we're supposed to be doing here.

Is surround sound good? Yes.

Should the speakers be spread out in such a way that the "surround" the listener? Yes, I would be for that as well.

eta: These people that put speakers behind their TV? I don't know them.

1: Have the Speakers surrounding THE TV
2: Have the speakers surrounding THE WHOLE ROOM.

I don't think that they aren't understanding your explanation, just that no one here has ever really heard of putting the speakers AROUND THE TV. What purpose would that serve besides to mix all the sounds from each speaker into one giant mess coming from the area of the tv??? Placing them around the room is ideal SURROUND sound, as it SURROUNDS THE LISTENER, not SURROUNDS THE TV.

How exactly do speakers surround a room if they're IN it? I don't think anyone's being intentionally obtuse, I just think your descriptions aren't so hot. No need to be hostile about it.

I can easily say that everyone would vote for the proper placement of a 5.1, 6.1 or 7.1 setup with fronts being at the front, surrounds behind you, etc as opposed to all the speakers clumped up. What exactly are you trying to learn here? I'm honestly confused.

And now that things are cleared up, people can properly answer... anyway, I prefer my speakers around the room so they surround me.

Surrounding the listen area or expanding to the size of the entire room.
I got it.

I prefer the surround channels far away as possible to the side and back.
The fronts set up to the stero triangle = Distance between them equals distance to the seat. Center in the middle below the screen.

The poll questions are confusing, too---the correct answer would be "I like to have a surround system with the speakers spread around the room," or something like that.

Unless OP specifically had something like Sony's Soundbar in mind...

Either way, there's no need to be snippy.

Compare this to his other poll...
*edit* Link removed- thread was deleted apparently.

I think he's just trolling for attention.

You, sir, are exactly the kind of person that doesn't belong in a helpful forum.

Why don't you grab your tricycle and get on home now, Mom's gonna be mad if you're late for supper...
