No one should overlook the Robe. A very entertaining movie that was one of the first widescreen movies of all-time.

+1 The Robe was indeed the first movie released in Cinemascope. It is an excellent film. And I want to include the sequeal "Demetrius and the Glaidiators"

And, How about the two Hercules films with Steve Reeves? I thought they were great when I watched them as a kid. "Hercules" and "Hercules Unchained"

Can someone comment on how well The Robe holds up today? I know it has historical value as the first widescreen movie. However, does the film itself stand on its own? I love other sword and sandals of the era such as Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, El Cid, Spartacus... Quo Vadis was enjoyable for historical value (as a spectacle and early sword and sandal film), but at times just plain silly. Wondering how The Robe ranks among those films...

I thought The Robe was a bit too theatrical, but you already could've guessed that; it has Richard Burton in it . It's clearly remembered for the most part because it was the first movie released in CinemaScope, otherwise there wouldn't be so much fuss about it. But overall it's alright.

By the way, I thought Quo Vadis was great. Especially Peter Ustinov as Nero.

From the titles mentioned I will take
1) BEN-HER
2) GLADIATOR
3) THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
4) KINGDOM OF HEAVEN
5) 300

But if BRAVEHEART were on the list it would bump everything down 1 spot!!!!

Beastmaster had many showings on TBS way back when and I watched it every time (also saw it first run in the theater in '83). My favorite scenes are the ones with Tanya Roberts; also like the "tree-hugging carnivores". Unfortunately, we might be waiting a while to see it on BD.

One of my faves was a cheesy b-film from the 60's called "The Magic Sword". Does anybody remember that one? This starred film Basil Rathbone,Anna Helm, Gary Lockwood, Estelle Winwood, and Liam Sullivan. Sadly it has lapsed into the public domain.
