Guys, good news to those who are having issue with DV and raised blacks.
https://www.forbes.com/sites/johnarc.../#7feb83952906 While John Archer was addressing this specifically for the Apple TV, the article also mentions 4K Blu-ray players, as well. Basically it's an issue with Dolby Vision signal being sent via HDMI, which is why the internal TV apps don't have the same problem. So, it's not LG's or Oppo's fault after all; it's Dolby's fault and kudos to them for owning the responsibility. Now the issue is getting the pertaining firmware update. If it is the issue on the TV's side, like the article is stating, we are at the mercy of the TV manufacturers, namely LG, to release this firmware update in a timely fashion. This may not bode very well for us 2016 LG owners, though. |

Updates, while they were relatively on-the-spot in 2016 and into 2017, I just worry that a product from two generations ago will not get as much attention to fix. I hope my worry is for nothing because I would like to enjoy both consistent black (bars) and the subtle improvements DV offers.

Watched this last night with my wife. A truly fantastic transfer. Definitely in my top tier of discs. Great use of HDR throughout. Beyond the obvious "bright light in dim room" scenarios that play really well with HDR, I just thought that the color saturation of the grass and trees in the outdoor shots were fantastic as well. 5/5 PQ in my opinion.

LG doubters? As LG owners? I'm just being cautious, honestly. The last update that is listed on their website for my set specifically was 6 months ago.
Anyway, "IT" was just as fantastic the 3rd time around. Watching it again yesterday I really appreciate the kids performances further. |

IT was a really pleasant surprise. I figured I'd like it well enough, but it really stuck with me and I already want to watch it again, too. The excellent PQ and sound certainly didn't hurt. I'm hoping my wife will want to watch it this weekend. Though we might just have to skip that opening scene...

I don't doubt the tv manufacturers will get us a firmware update. What I do doubt is that it will be a quick response. I'm sure they'll incorporate it into their next firmware update but won't fast track it for one movie issue.

I appreciate good acting and it really shouldn't matter what age the actor is but I think because it's rare that young actors make a film that appeals to adults that the performances in this film really stand out to me. It's kind of like watching a young teen sing opera as good as adults who have trained for years. Just something special about it.
Owen Teaque was perfectly cast. He plays what I consider to be a "Stephen King character" His performance is good but it's something about his style and look that feels familiar to characters I have read about in other "king" books. Jeremey Ray Tayler also deserves major credit. I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must have been to play that role. Having his shirt pulled over his head and being called "tits". His character displays a large variety of emotions and he has to strip down into his skivvies for the whole world to see. I am sure there are a few scenes in this film that makes him cringe but they were necessary in order for his character to come off as genuine and have the effect that the story needed. Sophi Lillis also had a bunch of awkward scenes with the clown as well as her father and being the only girl. I can't imagine this being easy for anyone and it's surprising to see such young actors not just play the parts but play them well. Jeigh Lieberher played the role of Billy perfectly. His stare is pretty intense, reminds me of Tim Robbins. I would assume that all of them read the book so that they would understand the characters they were playing better. That must have made everything even more awkward. This is the best film I have watched this year but I am hoping Blade Runner 2049 trumps it. I will be watching it for the first time next week. Can't wait. Last edited by the_sextein; 01-11-2018 at 10:02 PM. |

When watching the Digital for some reason if I have the soundbar on the sound skips in and out but if I turn it off the sound plays fine through the TV Speakers. I put The Blu Ray Disc in to see if it was the same problem but the sound plays perfect with the soubdbar on. Does anyone know whatvthe issue with the Digital would be?
