None.
If I don't like a movie series, I just don't watch it. I wouldn't want to take enjoyment away from the people who do like it. |

For me it's not about wanting to end a series out of spite but rather wanting to see that time, money, talent and creativity go into creating something new. If the 70's and 80's were like now, we might never have even got some of the stuff like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Back to the Future, Star Wars, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Close Encounters, Beverly Hills Cop, Poltergeist, Top Gun, Die Hard... and so on, because they were major studio films not based established franchises. Not saying none of those would get made but I'd bet at least half of them wouldn't.

For me, at least, it's not so much that I want to see a series end because I no longer enjoy it -- it's that I'd rather it have an end instead of chugging along with diminishing returns, or starting a planned (sub)series that doesn't do well enough to be completed in a sequel. Just repeating the same thing over and over, or escalating with no real plan for an ending . . . it gets boring. I'd rather have a final film that allows the thing to go out properly.

I just act like movies don't exist and I'm perfectly happy with that.
Star Wars has already ended. It is just the 7 films.... Episode I-VI and Rogue One. I'm open to an Obi-Wan movie or a different set of Star Wars movies set in a different time frame if done well. The Sequel Trilogy is just garbage. I'm done with the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers 4.... unless something absolutely amazing comes along. Pirates of the Caribbean ended at #3.... which was a logical ending point for the story. Indiana Jones is just a trilogy. X-Men is super complicated because it seems like every other movie is good. I have a hard time rectifying that film series. I hope Disney does a reboot but keep Magneto and Professor X actors only. They are amazing and shouldn't be replaced. Harry Potter is still going strong.... will end up being 13 movies in total with the Fantastic Beast movies. Sometimes The Hobbit trilogy doesn't exist. Sometimes it does. Depends on my mood. There is a really awesome 4.5 hour epic within that trilogy of movies. Would love to see one giant super cut done properly there. Last edited by WestMan; 01-15-2018 at 04:13 PM. |

Take Roonan's post, the one you thanked. He says the new Star Wars movies are cheap pandering, fan-fiction and trash. Now, those might be perfectly legitimate opinions but is there really any way to call a movie trash without ridiculing the opinions of the people who liked it? |

I'm happy for any movie series to continue, because there are fans of virtually any series of movies. If you stop liking a series you can stop watching it, but others may enjoy the continuation of it. It's not like there is a shortage of other stuff to watch instead if you don't like something.
That said I can understand if a series has a story you regard as perfectly told not needing any more additions. But again, you don't have to watch any more if you don't want to. The best reason, in my opinion, for wanting a series or franchise to end, would be if it was tying up the talents and time of creators/perfromers you would rather were working on something else. For example, There might be people who hate the Star Wars prequels who wish George Lucas had left it at the original trilogy and made different films instead. Or maybe James Cameron fans who didn't like Avatar aren't looking forward to more of those and wish he'd make something else. There might be a Daniel Craig super fan who always hated James Bond movies and felt sick upon learning he was going to be spending years in the role instead of making more unrelated films than he has had time for. That I get, even if I personally enjoyed all of the examples I mentioned. Quote:
"Personally I thought the movie was trash, I hated it and found nothing of value in it whatsoever. I loathed everything about it, it bored me in some places, and actively offended me in others. The only surprises I had in the movie were from just how bad I thought it was. However, I'm glad others enjoyed it more than I did, and good luck to anyone who found the worth or entertainment from it that was sorely lacking from my point of view." Here's another, less verbose example: "I think it's trash. IMHO." Last edited by Porco Azzurro; 01-15-2018 at 08:27 PM. |
