SR has mentioned Sony in a lot of tweets regarding release, do Disney is not involved.

Not really anything new. But between that tweet and the other one that said they’re up to Season 5 and will be finished by March, it gives hope that we could get the set at some point this year.

Seriously though. This show was still being filmed when blu-ray came into existence. Spending over a year to get it suitable for BD release is just ridiculous.

If they just transferred it OAR 1:33 as it should be, then it wouldn't be taking so long. But since people need to fill their screens and they have to crop every shot to 1.78, they are doing it essentially shot by shot so at least it looks better.

So It's only ridiculous because it's being cropped and not presented in OAR, but not the time it's taking because that's understandable.

The OAR is the cropped version. It was shot in 16:9, and cropped to 4:3 for US TV release. The entire 16:9 is what was offered on the DVD's, and later HD TV offerings.

100% incorrect. It was composed 4x3, all framing was done for 4x3. Even Shawn Ryan said so:

"Firstly, although filmed in Widescreen, The Shield is edited in Full Frame, and to maintain the documentary feel and enhance the tension on screen was always envisioned to be seen in the Full Frame aspect ratio the final editing is performed in."

1.33 was always is the intended aspect ratio. Size of the negative doesn't mean a thing. It's how the shots are composed that creates the OAR.

That is not correct. They are not cropping it down to fit widescreen. The OAR, that was the 4:3 that you so love, was the cropped version. It has the sides cropped off to fit the desired AR presentation.

The 16:9 AR that we are getting for this Blu, which was also the AR that is on the DVD's that I have, is the un-cropped version.
