With the upcoming theatrical release of "Mary and the Witch's Flower" only two weeks away here in the US, I figured it was time to start an official Studio Ponoc thread here in the anime forum. Hopefully Studio Ponoc will become as well-known as Studio Ghibli has in the past!

There are now both Japanese standard and Limited Edition UHD/BD combo releases for Mary and the Witch's Flower available for pre-order, and they do include English subtitles (click on the images for links):

I pre-ordered the UHD/BD combo set last week, looking forward to the nice JP release, the box looks just like the book in the movie.

Ordered my Fathom Event tickets yesterday to go see the movie in two weeks (January 18th) at my local movie theater - can't wait! Unfortunately, I'm taking a couple friends along who don't read subtitles, so I had to get tickets for the English dub showing. If I was going by myself I would have gone to the subtitled Japanese language showing. At least the dub is an actual British English dub, so it's fitting for the story setting...

I really wanna catch this in theaters but the nearest one is 2 hours from my house lol.

I know you hate dubs but the cast is pretty interesting and seems to be all UK based.

UK dub huh? I might be tempted to watch the dub instead of the subtitle one. I'll see which one my brother wants to watch if we go.

Wow, I'm really out of the loop. Had not heard of Studio Ponoc before and had no idea this wasn't a Ghibli film. Looks like they've continued the tradition of using a mispronounced foreign word as the company name.

This movie is directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Arrietty, Marnie) and produced by Yoshiaki Nishimura (Kaguya-hime). Ghibli in all but name, I'm super excited.

Is this getting a wider release than what's happening this weekend? I'm only seeing showtimes for one theater (and it's multiple showtimes all weekend so I assume it's not the Fathom event) that's like half an hour away so I'd rather wait if it's gonna expand but if not I shall make the trek

From gkids Twitter page,these are the only theaters listed for this film after today's premier event.

The limited release is the only way to get UHD, AFAIK! Just a heads up to anyone hoping to get a 4K disc on the cheaper release. At least if you pre-order the regular release now, you get a slip cover that seems like it would look nice next to the "North American Edition" JP release of The Secret World of Arrietty.

I would have to drive 4 hours to see it in theaters, so I think you're pretty lucky.

I decided to pass on seeing this in theaters because all the good seats were taken. Guess I'll wait for the home release.

Nice a bunch of theaters just updated near me with new screenings this weekend. It seems like the ones near me always put them up at the last minute and fandango does not seem to list all of them unless you click on the theater itself.
