I just watched Rambo(the last one) I've watch this movie over 10 times so for me this was the movie to use as a reference to compare Yamaha with my PS3 and Samsung.I also watched Korn concert(Blu)

Can you say colour.
The colour on this player is more intense. There's just more colour with this Yamaha,Right away that was the first thing i noticed .
It makes a big difference. It's like if you never had a sub go below 30 HZ you don,t know really what your missing.
The truth is the colour makes the picture.I can't stress how blown away iam with this

Then the 3D feel impressed me.
Remember iam useing a 1080i plasma TV and all i Have to say is WOW.I like the detail with this player. If it looks that good with 1080i i could only imagine how awesome it would look with a 1080P set

When Rambo is standing up in the rain talking to the girl in the boat.I found his silhouette stood out more.Very detailed from what i had.I've always liked that rain scene and watched it many times. So it was easy for me to see the improvements
You would think iam useing a 1080p TV with this player.

The Blacks are just more Black and i was happy with what i had but now it's better.I just have more depth with this player

The picture is so much cleaner then my Ps3 or Samsung 1400.Iam very satisfied .I didn't think i would notice a big difference like i have .

The loading times are as fast or faster then with my PS3 and the best part of that is it doesn't sound like hell when loading.I find it very quiet

Now for the sound. Is it possible that it can sound better .
I belive it is.Just a little bit more crisper more detailed. It's hard for me to describe better sound then what i had but it's better. The rain scenes in the movie were more intense.
I noticed my back surrounds and rears just sounded better .

Iam very happy with this player so far, Now iam going back to enjoy it

Graduation on your Yamaha BD-S2900(standalone Blu-ray player),you did your homework.Sometime it don't pay to play(PS3) around if you are looking for better PQ/AQ,and it pay off with a few more dollars for a high end Blu-ray player. It seem that the quality on Yamaha BD-S2900 up there with Denon & the Elite 95 for PQ/AQ or better as a Blu-ray player, you may have to start a new tread.

Congrats Man,

there should be some better color, it uses a 12 bit processor right??? I think others use a 10 bit, and the sony ES is 14 bit.... I wouldn't think the sound would be any better, since your prolly bitstreaming the audio to your yammy AVR anyways, but I am sure like the sony es it is using a seperate sound board??? and that MAY have something to do with a better sound quality... IDK.

I noticed a slight PQ difference with my bd-35K over my bd-10ak when I first hooked it up... it was just crisper and more detailed...

Thank you callas01

Yes It uses 12 Bit and i think it also helps with the depth of the picture ,about the sound it should sound the same, but it does sound better .

Maybe because i think the new player is doing it or maybe because of the look of the player or maybe it`s all in my head and i want it to sound better LOL .
But to me it sounds better and iam O.K with that

I don't miss my 1400 taking forever and sounding like it trying to take a Sh*t before loading (It would sound terrible sometimes)

I am trying to decipher for myself if it makes sense to upgrade to one of the "higher end players", and I have read a lot of post's that said you will not see much of a difference with the 1080P quality. The biggest difference is on non-blu discs, dvd upconversion, cd, sacd etc. The audio should not be any different if you are using the receiver the decode the audio.

So if it your not using a 1080P tv I wonder if your review is that relevant for people with are using the player for mainly1080P content?

Brother, You have to remember

My review is just that, my personal review Blu-ray movies with a Yamaha BD-S2900 ,1080i Samsung PN50A450 plasma tv and a YAMAHA RX-V3800 reciever

What eles do you want me to say.To tell you that there isn't an i improvement from my Samsung and Ps3? LOL I can't do that

Now don't take this personal but You can convince yourself that theres no difference From lets say A Samsung 1400 and listen to people that don't have the player or go find out for yourself like i did

If you ask enough people a question you will hear the answer that you want to hear.Do you know what i mean

I know your questioning if it's worth it (i was doing it myself) . All i can say is Your just going to have to find out for yourself And see if it's worth it for you money wise.If your happy with your player and it's not giving you problems then sit back take it easy and enjoy it my friend

No i don't have a 1080p TV .Sorry i can't give you my review with that TV but i can tell you this,Iam very happy with my purchase And i love the PQ on this player .
I don't know what eles i can say.

Iam just a consumer like you .I have nothing to gain with my small review. It's not like i work for Yamaha or any company that sells higherend players

I was Happy with my Samsung 1400, now Iam Happier with My new Player
I could still take it back and get my money but iam keeping it.Ask yourself why iam would keep it

I don't know why your taking this personal my friend, of course you have every right to post your review and I have enjoyed reading your thread and found it educational. I am not trying to convince myself of anything I am just trying to figure out for myself if it's worth to drop an extra $500 to $1,500 for a "better player".

My only point was from a few different posts and threads i read that you would get the biggest benefit from a more expensive player because of the upconverting from 1080i to 1080P.

OH,Man i didn't want you to think that,Dam i hate when it seems i come across like that

Bro seriously iam definitely not taking it personal and i didn't take you personal at all

When i say you have to find out for yourself.Iam serious. You have to see the improvement then Question if it's worth spending the money on it.Lets not play around there is some crazy prices out there ,thats for sure

I Had a budget.I didn't have $1500. All i could do is $800.Me having and Yamaha Receiver and wanting something a little bit more then what i had,The smart choice for me was the player i got.

Like i said i am very happy.

You pointed out there has been some people that say there is no difference and i made my statement and like i said Don't take it personal on what i was about to tell you.

It's all just my Personal opinions and suggestions I meant no hard feelings with my reply

So are we good my friend

Default Good review

I was happy that set-up was easy and essentially you plugged and played and got better results. Which is fantastic as I find these players all get smoother when they are warmed up/broken in. Cheers!
