I remember a lot of people saying Chloe Moretz didn't work in the role because she was way too pretty. IMHO Sissy was way prettier back in the 70's.

Of course Sissy Spacek was made to look plain and unattractive without makeup for the role of Carrie -when she had her hair and makeup done for the prom scene, she was not stunningly beautiful but she was definitely a very pretty woman. She was even prettier before she had her nose done (it was already done by the time she did "Carrie"):

Wow, that was her? I wouldn't have recognized her at all. She should have left her nose alone because in the other photos people posted it's the one feature of hers I don't like - it looks too much like Michael Jackson's nose post-cosmetic surgery(ies).

I'd say that having her nose done was a mistake. Just my opinion though.

Hey, man, you’re not alone. I about did a spit take when I saw all the people rushing to defend her looks. To your point, she seems exceedingly nice, and she has talent for days, but if anyone thinks Sissy Spacek is legitimately attractive, they’re looking at her with radically different eyes than I am. But I’ve gotten similar crap as you here for calling out the lack of attractiveness of some other actresses (like Mary-Louise Parker, who I still can’t fathom dudes find hot—in fact, it wasn’t until coming here that I discovered anyone did!). I have learned that the Blu-ray.com crowd is VERY forgiving where looks are concerned.

She did look good in the prom scene but that was really the only time I would say she was actually pretty on film because of the way she was made up and photographed in that scene. After that...

Homecoming Queen of her High School graduating class in 1968.

For the record, she probably wouldn't find me attractive either.

I honestly don't want to harp on the looks thing too much. It's getting a little blown out of proportion. I think the casting the movie was pretty damn good.

They could have made Carrie a chubby, pimply girl, like in the book. But that was never going to happen. Sissy Spacek was suitably plain early in the film, an effect magnified by her performance. She cleaned up well for the prom, and adjusted her performance accordingly. The movie is a legit classic; it all worked.

Carrie is a helluva horror film and a stone-cold classic. The casting, right down the line, couldn't be bettered, IMO.

Now could we PLEASE, PLEASE, PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP, get a kick-ass special edition domestic release of The Fury?!? I know Arrow has a great transfer but I'd love to see Shout/Scream improve on the already decent array of supplements on that release (it's happened before...it can happen again! ).

Agreed the Arrow transfer is great (although region b locked),
but as you know MJD there is ALWAYS room in my collection for one more.....
(and before you ask, yes I did pick up the Arrow Carrie limited....)
