Does anyone with the technical knowledge know if Schinder's List would benefit from a 4K release over the regular Bluray?

The BD is pretty superb on it's own. Since there is no color to reproduce for roughly 97% of the movie, the uptick in detail would probably be very nil. There should be a slight upgrade, but hardly anything to get excited about.

Today is Holocaust Remembrance day for many nations!

I'd like to watch Schindler's List (i think it's been a couple of years since I last watched it), but on the other hand I can't cry my eyes out again..

I haven't seen this movie - my all-time #2 - in almost 15 years. It's not a cinematic experience I treat lightly.

(which makes me chuckle at the ridiculous claims by naysayers that this movie is offensive because it turned the Holocaust into entertainment for the masses. It's shocking, scary and wrenching, not remotely entertaining).

I feel the same.
The film is greatness, but tough to watch.
My wife hasn't seen it and I want her to, but that means balling my eyes out again.

It's my fav movie to. A cinematic masterpiece. I watch it when I feel depressed and feel like my life sucks beyond repair...then it puts things in perspective & I realize my life's troubles pale in comparison to what the countless Jews went through, and then I am thankful for what I do have in life. (after shedding about 5 gallons of tears after watching the ring scene)

I bought this movie on Blu-Ray, no joke, about four years ago, and STILL haven't watched it. It's a brilliant film, one of Spielberg's masterworks, and yet it's hard to nerve myself up to watch it again.

The end credits scene is one of the most powerful moments in film history. I'm not ashamed to admit that I tear up during it.

I recall having the same reaction when I watched it in the theaters upon release. On a recent re-viewing, it surprisingly didn't make any impact (no, am not a wicked person) making me wonder what changed my personality in the decades and off on an introspective journey. Truth be told, am more affected by documentaries on the topic now, than H'wood offerings

That's interesting; maybe you became impervious to Spielberg's telegraphed emotional manipulation. He really doesn't need to do that, especially in films that are already emotionally loaded and heartbreaking. I am always overcome by this movie, and indeed the "more subtle" ones that I think are even better stories from the Holocaust, e.g., The Pianist and The Counterfeiters. Part of the issue for me is that Schindler was purely an opportunist, and I'm not sure he should be regarded as a hero. I respect that some would make him out to be a hero, such as those he enabled to survive. But I have some moral ambiguity about it.

There are real monsters in this world. Human Beings are capable of truly evil acts that go beyond comprehension.

This may be a film, but it captured one of the most tragic moments in human history amazingly.

On a similar note, about holocaust movies, I've seen The pianist only once more than 15 years ago, but i remember I didn't like it as much as Schindler's List and it didn't do anything for me..

I think the fact that Schindler was honored by the people and descendants of those people says whether he was a hero or not. In any case, you SEE the opportunist at the beginning of the movie and how he evolves into someone who not only saves a lot of people, but risks his life to do it.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the film
I am hoping Universal gives us a 4K UHD disc version.

"bawling".

Because otherwise, what you wrote means you're going to have to have an extreme amount of sex with your wife to get her to watch Schindler's List.

Now, semantics aside, when I saw this thread had reappeared I was figuring it was something to do with a 25th Anniversary edition announcement.
