So are you gonna be driving 20+ min to a theater now? I've pretty much only used MoviePass so far with my local theater that's 10 minutes away. Don't know if I'd be doing that as they say people will. Really sucks for you guys who were affected.

If this is really over concessions take, wow. They really have no right to that. Right now movie theaters make little money as is. So far I haven't bought any concessions, but would consider if it if I was hungry and wanted a snack where as before I'd just wait till it's over and eat else where.

MoviePass needs to provide better costumer service before making all these demands from AMC and the like. Right now I'm seeing more movies cause of it, but could easily take it or leave it (or switch to Cinemark's version).

At this point, MoviePass is losing lots of money. One article I read had an investment analyst who said that MP would probably run out of money in about 7 months, if they keep burning through it at their accelerating rate. They don't have a huge amount of time to play a long game. They need to find a way to make this work or they'll go under.

Cinemark's pass is nothing like MoviePass. They both cost about $10 a month, but Cinemark gives you 1, yes 1 and only 1, ticket for that price. With MoviePass, as you know, you can see up to a movie a day.

I'm probably typical in that I've gone from seeing movies twice a month to c. twice a week with MoviePass. But at my local ticket prices, If I'm seeing c. 8 movies a month they are losing about $60 a month from me.

Perhaps the average MP customer sees only 2-4 movies a month, but that still means they face significant loses unless they figure out something.

I love MoviePass, and I want them to succeed, but there's a reason they are trying to do this....Money doesn't grow on trees, and neither do movie tickets.

AMC might even be right in the long run about MoviePass.

We'll see....

I'm just saying, I have demons too, but work on them by confronting them more than escaping from them. It's a balancing act because escapism is okay, but not too much.

What are "all of these posts" you're talking about? A simple search of this thread will show mostly how enthusiastic I've been of MP, despite maybe a few bumps in the road.

What's the point of Cinemark's program then? Couldn't you just buy a ticket whenever you wanted to see a film? Or is there some kind of extra benefit I'm missing out on?

I'm not asking this sarcastically, I really don't understand the benefit of their option. (Unless your theater prices are really expensive or something...)

As you say, there's basically no point at all to Cinemark's program. I love the Cinemark theater near me. Great place to see movies! But the program makes no sense for the customer as far as I can see—esp. compared to MoviePass.

Their plan is $8.99/month for 1 ticket, 20% off all concessions purchases, and online ticket fees are waved. If you don't use your ticket, it rolls over and never expires as long as you're a member. It pays for itself, but only if you purchase concessions or go to late showings when prices are higher.

MoviePass just acquired an independent film for their own distribution.

The request to take a piece of the box office and concessions is different but then the chains that offer reserved e-tickets provided some investment capital so these chain owners see the benefit in supporting MoviePass.

Okay, I suppose the concessions and rollover are benefits. But only if you go to the movies often enough and enjoy concessions.

Personally, I only bought concessions because Carmike had the popcorn bucket for a crazy good deal. But now that AMC essentially nerfed it...

I had movie pass a few years ago where I paid $30 a month... what I found myself doing was going to the movies TOO often simply to justify the price... I had to at least see $40 worth of movies to make it worth it.

I eventually got rid of it because I became one of these "losers " who spent nearly all free time at the theater

Now I will go to the movies once or twice a week, if that... I mean, right now we are in thst time when there are really good movies out (when alot of the oscar push movies get wide releases)

I will see great movies twice (I saw Molly's Game and 3 Billboards twice) but for the most part I see the movies only once (I like to see a movie, then wait for its home video release where I will just buy it on release week, I like to watch what I buy to make sure the disc isnt f'd up, so by waiting, it gives me time to anticipate seeing it again)

As movoe pass is right now:

Paying $10 a month is a no brainer
$15 a month is still fine
$20 a month, I start to think whether I want it or not
Anything above $20 a month just isnt worth it anymore!

When I disnt have movie pass I would take advantage of the Tuesday prices for movies I really wanted to see, which was 6 bucks now I think it is 7... in a given month there are maybe 2 movies that I REALLY want to see, so my monthly budget would be around $14 a month on movies (unless it was Imax 3D dolby theaters which were 10 on Tuesdays)

Long story short (too late) if movie pass decides to drastically raise prices, by just $10 a month... they will not survive, because people like me and the general public will not stick with it.

Cinemark's promo is a joke... 20% off concessions is still not enough since we are still paying much higher then what they pay.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cinemark gets mad and starts updating their policies not to allow points when using MP at their theaters.

As for AMC, everyone knows that the only way they stay in business is via their concessions since the studios take most of their profits in the first few weeks. For MP to demand a good chunk will hurt AMC in the long run (they would need to hire less staff, longer lines, more expensive stuff, etc)

These are surely changing times for the movie industry. Do you think it's time to repeal that law about how Studios can't own theaters?

HMNY (parent company) was a nearly left for dead small/micro-cap stock with a $15 million or so market cap. But they kinda tapped into gold with the $9.95 price, and the company can survive for quite some time by issuing equity. They've been issuing equity since they acquired/loaned Moviepass for $5 million (I forget the exact price, it's around that).

The $400 million 'shares + warrants + convertible notes' rights offering announced a few days ago is two things:
- incredibly dilutive to everyone who owned the stock before two days ago
- a very big bet that people will keep buying these rights offerings

IMO, buy the red Moviepass mastercard, just don't buy the stock.

If they include Imax & Dolby for $20 I'll stick around. Besides, the lowest non matinee ticket in NYC is a little north of $13.

You're projecting here. Not everyone who goes to the movies a lot is doing it to escape their problems. Some people just want to be entertained. Sometimes a cigar's just a cigar.

Thanks guys, never really looked into Cinemark's plan before I typed it. Def wouldn't replace it with that. Would prob just go back to my old system of waiting for Blu-ray expect for Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi/Superhero movies that I'd still see in theater's.

During their survey I put in a limit of $13 as much as I'd be willing to spend if they included upgraded theaters (and perhaps discounts on concessions, maybe that's where this AMC dispute has come in?). I'd prob do $15-17, $20+ would be pushing it for me if it included those features.

This business probably isn't sustainable at less than $30 a month, especially since some tickets are at least $17. That's where we're at right now, so enjoy it while you can.
