Default New York 4K BD buying advice?

Hi,

We are planning a trip to NY in a few months and I hoped to pick up a few films whist over there.

Can anyone recommend a place that might have good deals?

Thanks!

I found Best Buy & Target were always a good place to have a look in as they seem to monitor Amazon's pricing. Think there is a least 4 or 5 Best Buy's & a couple of Target stores on Manhatten island. Don't forget that there is 20% tax on most stuff as well.

When we were over there in late 2016 I came back with plenty of new release's, plus the exchange rate is a lot better at the moment than it was back then.

Think I paid $1.30 to the pound.

Also, Best Buy and Target both price-match Amazon.

What do you mean by 20% tax? NYC sales tax is 8.875%

You will quickly find out upon arrival here in the states that choices for where to shop don't really exsist anymore. Especially for electronics and media. Bestbuy, walmart, target and amazon have pretty much ended every competitor. Also, studios rip people off hard compared to overseas movie prices. I must of bought 20% of my bluray collection in the first few years via uk amazon as the prices were like half of american market even after shipping 5k miles.

There are no Wal-Marts in the Five Boroughs. The closest ones are in Valley Stream which is Long Island and North Bergen, NJ.

Best Buy at Union Square.
The Chelsea branch (23rd and 6th) has a good selection of movies.

It's up to $1.41 to the pound. And NYC sales tax is 8.875% as someone else pointed out. But on a lot of titles, Amazon is going to be less expensive.

One other place to check is Barnes & Noble, especially if they have a sale on when you are here. The store on 6th Avenue and the one on the north side of Union Square Park have a pretty large video department.

Unfortunately, both Tower Records and J&R Music World are long out of business. Those would have been better places to buy.

I assume you have a player that can play titles from any region - otherwise the U.S. titles aren't going to work unless they're region free.

An off topic suggestion: stay out of the usual tourist areas like Times Square and find the places that are unique to NYC. I don't know why tourists come here and then eat in the same chain restaurants and shop in the same chain stores they have at home.

All 4k discs are region free so not an issue.

Nope. You might be thinking of the recommended tip, but it's not a tax and it's completely voluntary. Or you might be thinking of the Manhattan parking garage tax, which I think is 20% + the 8.875% regular city sales tax.

We went to NYC a few years back for July 4th. It was a little expensive, but aside from Manhattan, it wasn't all that costly. We ate at little out of the way restaurants (best Chinese food I ever had) and stayed away from the touristy parts, except for a few must see museums. We spent the holiday at Brooklyn Park watching fireworks and had a blast. Great vacation.

On edit: The 9/11 memorial is a must see for any visitor.

Cost us about 2 grand each total spend for 6 days.

Bloke I work with went the week before we did for 7 days & he told me it set him back almost 5 grand for the 2 of them.

20% is the recommended tip for servers *anywhere* in the United States. They don't make a salary so their wages are completely dependent upon how people tip, which is something that many visitors (and, Hell, many Americans) forget. It's super disrespectful not to tip unless the service was bad. If you can't afford to tip, you can't afford to eat there.

That's not entirely correct. 15% is for acceptable service and 20% is for exceptional service.
