Releasing the series on this turkey combo format for such a high price will probably have the total opposite effect of what the HD-DUD group is hoping for, as all their other efforts have already proven.

I certainly hope that when the Blu-ray disc version is released, that there will be an option of viewing either the original version of the episodes or the "enhanced" version - perhaps by employing seamless branching. Some of the new cgi sequences are nice, but I still prefer having the option of seeing the show in all it's original 1960's glory.

That would be sweet.

"You ARE freaking out...man"
I agree that it's pricey, but it's my understanding that what's being released for HD DUD is not the first season. It's the entire original series. The price doesn't look that bad when you're getting all 3 seasons. C'mon Paramount! This seems to go against you wanting to help end this war

edit: Never Mind. I see that now it's only the first season. The original announcement was for the whole thing. Definetly agree that this costs too much, but still think Paramount should put it out on Blu at the same time.

Just wait. I doubt many people will want to rush out and buy this. Too pricey and who would want a DVD combo for more if you can just buy the DVD anyways?
By the way, the only store that caries the DVDs to Star Trek near me is FYE, and they have had the same box sets in the store since they can out, no one has purchased them yet.
I don't think it will matter much, cause Blu will win in the end and it will eventually come out to BD.

At $217 this is no threat to Blu-ray.

They talk up HD-DUD as the "cheaper" format. Then they go ahead and release a title only a king can afford.

What kind of ill concieved marketing is this?

The brain is dead...can we kill the body already???

i look at it this way. its great that this happened because i just noticed a sudden shift from paramount. PARAMOUNT SHIFT CONCENTRATION TO BLURAY. it means everything we get from them now has additional features and they are HD. i see it as a better move from their side.

By the end of the year, the Blu-ray sales figures are going to so completely dominate HD DVD that releasing this exclusively on HD DVD will just be a complete embarrassment to Paramount.

That makes it a bit more easy to swallow...but it is still too much for any single product and won't sell that much.

This is diffently not a threat, the price is way too high even if it was to come out on Blu-Ray. Thank god I don't like this show.

well I'd pay
800+ for a huge blu-ray box set of sopranos lol ... I really hope its not gonna be 200 a season if that comes out but like with the sopranos they had it on ebay brand new 5 weeks after it came out for 55.99 buy now unopened so people could probly find those deals on trek.

It's just the first season

The press release is very cleverly designed to look that way, but it says

Quote:
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment invite you to experience STAR TREK: The Original Series as never before when the legendary first season arrives for the first time ever in a 10-disc HD DVD/DVD combo disc set on November 20,
Plus the first season was 8 discs on DVD, anyone want to explain how they'd stuff 78 eps on 10 DVD-9?

Sorry but this is a bunch of denial postings. This is the same thing HD-DVDers do all the time.

Reverse the news. "Blu-Ray exclusive - Star Trek Season 1". What would you say then? The price is too much? It will never sell? Not a chance.

I will never spend 200+ on a single season. My highest ever was 75$ for the Twilight Zone on DVD.

Thank you for that sig!! I heard that film clip a while back in a commercial and I was trying to place it but couldn't make out the name. Seeing it written out made it easy. I feel like a dope as I can usually name a movie with the slightest of clues.

i never thought about that way. But you are right!..
so far every step of the way, HDDVD group paved themselves a narrow road going downhill. I just can't believe their cheapest player cost as low as 179 bucks, and season 1 of the original star trek cost 217 bucks. it seems like a good deal for me. lol. yeah sure (I wouldn't waste me money on such a thing, unless it is bluray then maybe.)

I predict this will go lower as at comiccon someone stood up in the crowd and said something to the effect of "Why does Paramount CONTINUE to ream Trak fans with these prices?" to thunderous applause.
I bet it will go down to $199.
Still too high but maybe the BD set since they are non combo will only be $149 list.
