To quote Peter from Family Guy: Holy Freakin' Crap!! I cannot wait to get my hands on this. I'm a huge FF fan, from back when they were putting them out on the Super NES(I still have one with FF3 and the original Nintendo Power guide in mint condition). The series has come a long way since then, and hopefully this is an indication of what we can excpect from Square Enix. I just didn't like 12 due to the linearity of the game. I'm hoping they go back to free roaming with this one. I can only wonder if they will put out KH3 for the PS3.

I just hope this game will come out sooner than we think, like FFX did. But I'd rather have a great game coming late than a rushed game coming soon. Actually, Square Enix, take your time and give us a masterpiece .

Default Nothing this year.

Not even a playable demo until 2008. Very sad, and unfortunate considering previous statements that there would be a demo in 2007. As far as I'm concerned, this is the Killer App for the PS3 (at least on the gaming side). Hopefully it will be released before Microsoft releases the next generation of X-Box.

At best I was only expecting a playable demo at TGS, not something we could actually download.

And PS3 has plenty of 'killer apps' it's not like we're relying on a single game for success.

It is unfortunate but I'm not surprised when you consider how long FFXII has been out. If you told me that I could buy only one game for the PS3 this would be it, without even playing a demo. Final Fantasy is the whole reason I bought into the Playstation franchise.

This is true, but I'm remembering the phenomoneon and system seller that Final Fantasy 7 was in the early days of the PS2.

That game came out within the first year of the PS2's life and was almost singlehandedly responsible for sending the PS2 off into the stratosphere where it never looked back.

Actually, FFVII was a PS1 game. Notably, a great amount of money was spent to promote this game, though I'm not sure if it was entirely spent by Square, or if Sony chipped in. FFX was the first on the PS2. Both were very successful from a gameplay and story standpoint, IMHO.

Wow, you're right. That much time really has passed.

FF7 was a PS1 title.

Ok, then with that correction in place: I remember that FF7 was the phenomenon for the PS1 way back when that I described in my last post.

Same concept still applies, I just named the wrong console.

I did manage to find a 1080p file of the trailer for FFXIII online and watched it on my PS3. I guess I will have to drool with that for a year or so.
I am totally looking forward to this, I got PS1 and PS2 just for the FF games. And now the PS3 as well.

I suppose there is a lot of interest in Heavenly sword, Lair, and some others, but for strategy/RPG players like me, FFXIII is definitely THE must have exclusive title that I know about.

GTA 4 should have been, but Sony managed to lose the year or 2 of exclusivity they had with the GTA 3 games. Sony claims that this doesn't hurt them, indicating only that their powers of perception aren't working any more either.

Square Enix's semi-defection to multi-platform (FFXIII is still PS3 exclusive, but the future is wide open) is yet another blow.

Based on what I've seen so far, most developers have not managed to take full advantage of the Cell processor's power - that's why Sony should have done ANYTHING to maintain exclusivity with a great company like Square Enix, that will take the time to show what the system can do. Furthermore, the companies are forever intertwined in a lot of people's minds due to FFVII. I noticed that FF: Spirits Within is coming to Blu-Ray this week, which makes me think that at some level, there is still a cerain amount of association between Sony and SE.

Frankly, for today's RPG enthusiast, the PS2 is the best system to own. In the last months, there has been FFXII, Rogue Galaxy, Odin Sphere, and now I'm dying to get my hands on Persona 3. FFXIII is one of the first titles that, judging by the video, actually looks like it's a generation beyond what exists today on the PS2.

Future's always an uncertain quantity. Right now, yes, the PS2 is where the RPGs are, and still a few more are on the way. Really, the PS2 is still doing better than 7th gen systems in general.

Square-Enix is doing some multiplatform work, but I have to figure that after FF13 and Vs. 13 come out, PS3 will prove itself as the place for RPGs, especially in Japan, where it will have a much easier time against M$. My future prediction is that the PS3 becomes the first choice system for RPGs just like the first PlayStations did in their times. It may even get ports of JRPGs from other systems, again, just like how the PS2 did.

Cool Eager anticipation

I could care less about exclusivity. I just need this game. I love the FF titles. They are games you can count on to impress every time.

I don't agree that Sony needs exclusivity to win the game war. As a matter of fact, I think Sony will benifit from this in a year or two. Do you really think that anyone will want a 360 when they see what the PS3 can do with the same game a year from now? When developers finally get to understand the cell processor?

I was always going to have a PS3 so maybe it means less to me but I believe that the games and the quality, along with all of the other features and capabilities of the PS3 will sell it much more than exclusivity for any one title. With the current prices its asking a lot of anyone to pay $500 or $600 (again soon) to play ONE game.

Just my opinion, I might be wrong.

Some one said about bad frame rate? remeber this game project started in 04, the trailer all you have seen was made in late 05, since then you havent seen any of the 07 footage, so think about how much more polished and differnt the trailer would be now if they re-released it.
