Blu Ray cases

Does anyone remember when DVD first came out they had those crappy cardboard cases and then switched the plastic cases. Well, I was always anal about the way my cardboard cases looked in my vast collection of plastic cases. Do you think that the way that blu rays are packaged now will change significantly in the future?

like that fact that you have cardboard cases and plastic cases mixed up in your collection means the collection itself doesnt look as nice, and makes you mad.

put the plastics together and the rest at the end. That is what i do now with my bluray collection. All my plastic cases are together in alphabetical order and my digibook or other big cases(band of brothers, and the Criterion titles)

I doubt there will be any design changes to cases for a long while. Perhaps when mini-blu-rays will be the norm, casing and packaging could be slightly different.

I think it's safe to say that anyone who doesn't know the meaning of "anal" probably isn't anal about their cases. I'm right there with you, though.

+1 Yeah I also agree with you, I think they learned a lesson from distributing multiple cases with DVD's. Blu's in their current incarnation are just about right imo, compact and really sick looking!

I figured I'd post this question here instead of starting a new thread since it's case-related.

Y'know how they put the clear stickers around the edges of the blu cases? How do you guys deal with the residue left over from the sticky part of the sticker?

I hate when it leaves a residue and sticks to other cases. I bought the Rambo Trilogy on Blu yesterday. I guess it wasn't enough that the three movies were already inside a box set with plastic around it but each individual Blu was wrapped in plastic with three stickers on it.

goof off, not my personal recommendation, others suggest using a hair dryer? I don't remember exactly, but it is quite annoying when I try to take one movie off my shelf and end up with 3 lol

A lot of the initial DVD releases back in 1997 were released in what was coined as "Snapper" cases. These cases had a cardboard wraparound enclosure with a plastic holder. Warner Bros. had helped to design the Snapper packaging hence they were the last ones to finally switch over to the plastic cases. However, it was nearly impossible to find replacements for the plastic Snapper trays.

I could never separate my collection by the style of cases. It may not look nice but remembering what type of case a movie came in would be hard enough to find in a big collection. Only alphabetical would ever work for me.

I've been using lighter fluid on CDs for 20 years. It'll even remove stickers from cardboard without damage.

geez, i remember. some of my dvds are like that. my first release of the terminator was cardboard. i hope blu rays dont change much. some of my animation and star trek ds9 sets either fold out or flip like a page. i would prefer the plastic blu ray case for multiple discs.

I like the current Blu-ray packaging it lloks really nice with the blue plastic. and the shape of it looks just right not too rectanguler and not too round. Also a nice small compact size.

Stupid question, but does anyone know if different blu-ray cases have different model numbers? I am thinking of ordering some empty blu-ray cases from ebay, but I would greatly prefer the cases that Disney uses over the cases used by other studios? If anyone is unsure the differences, the disney cases are indented at the top and there is a plastic piece that clicks into place on the opening edge. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
