Everyday UK digital content gets worse. Let us buy TV shows digitally as they are released on TV. Let us have films the same time as they release in the US. Let us link uv, itunes, amazon, google, sky store libraries. Let us actually have providers which can provide UHD playback comparable to the range of UHD Discs. Please.

Even if I was a digital lover, I still wouldn’t make the leap because of the ghastly situation in this country. Subscription wise, it’s healthier but EST is minging. Even in the US though, it’s obvious Digital sell through is just a stepping stone. I see it as a dead end. I think the industry does too going by the minuscule growth it is showing YOY.

Personally, I place an online order almost every single week of the year for movies and television shows. I routinely pay release day pricing. In 2017, I placed 63 orders with Amazon alone and virtually everyone of those orders were for videos on disc. I ordered from other online sources like Screen Archives, Shout!, Best Buy, Barnes & Noble, Walmart, Disney Movie Club, and Criterion, too. I made a few in-store purchases in 2017, also, which is somewhat unusual for me. If it is a title that I absolutely want, I order it and pay whatever it costs.

Naturally, I love a bargain when I find one, but this is when I usually buy titles that are further down my list of priorities. This is where I will take a chance on something that I am uncertain about.

I love this hobby and I certainly support it as much as I can. I am confident that I will continue to be able to buy physical media for the balance of my lifetime despite the doomsday prophesying from our resident self-proclaimed pundit/ prognosticator who perpetually pronounces discs dead as if repeatedly doing so will make it come to pass.

I spend a fortune on my home cinema and tech in general but I have no kids or wife for that matter. I know many can’t afford to and wait until prices come down. Nothing wrong with that.

Why? The generation before this one who didn’t think it was acceptable to watch movies for free illegally were quite happy to pay for stuff they enjoy. I would rather pay full price every time for superior picture and audio. If you don’t understand that now, you never will.

I always find it hilarious in the U.K that folk will waste £70-£90 pound on a night out they can’t even remember but kick up a fuss about buying a film that has extras and can be rewatched many times. . And we are are supposed to be a nation of film lovers!

True, but from my experience, when I used to "collect" DVD's I'd justify it to myself that I would "watch this movie hundreds of times so it's worth buying!!". And guess what, 99.9% of the time the movie got 1 spin, maybe 2 and it ended up buried in a box of similar DVD purchases. That's when I told myself, never again. Thankfully with streaming, I don't feel as much buyers remorse.

A new release movie is usually no more than $20-$25, sometimes less, and I don't mind paying that at all. It is still more cost effective than taking two or more people to a single showing at the theater. I have known people who pay that much daily for coffeehouse coffee and their smokes. We each see value differently.

Six months later, that same movie might be discounted to $10, or even less, but I don't let that bother me. Sometimes you can get burned waiting for such discounts; the title might go out of print, or God forbid, come without a slip cover!

Well I do rewatch a lot of films. I am a big horror fan so films get repeat viewings at Halloween time every year. . Also, I have ‘comfort’ films for when I’m knackered after work and just want to sprawl on the sofa! I must admit I find compression artefacts annoying so I avoid digital when it comes to films.

Yeah I used to think the $19.99 first week release prices were awesome, I'd jump on it before it jumped $5-10 more the week after. I thought the same, "Oh it's cheaper than going to the movies!".

But then reality set in when I sat back and actually evaluated my ACTUAL movie watching usage. In the end I realized I watched a movie once and tossed it aside. If I tried to sell it to a used DVD shot you usually got pennies on the dollar so the discs sat collecting dust and wasting space in my house so I changed my buying/viewing habits.

Yeah, here full price is £15 do like you say, worth every penny. I bought the Twin Peaks boxset for £50 as it was just so beautifully designed.

Oh trust me, I do to (Big Lebowski, Caddyshack, etc) and thankfully I can hit a button on a remote and watch when I get in the mood, no need to find a disc, put it in a player etc.

I don’t mind a couple of minutes effort for the best quality even if I am knackered! As for film night at the weekend, I wouldn’t dream of using digital.

Oh I see where you coming from, but trust me, it's probably only you at the "movie nights" that cares at all about "picture quality", most/all guests would most likely be more than happy with the image digital streaming offers, unless you have say 1MB download speed internet.

With a collection the size that mine has become, I have no illusions about how many times I will watch each title. I don't even consider that anymore when buying something. When the urge for a repeat viewing does occur, it is nice to have that title close at hand, though.

First and foremost, I want the best, and most reliable, viewing/ listening experience I can have and in the comfort of my own little hobbit hole.

I also like having lots of titles on hand when I have company over; it is fun watching them browse my shelves. I usually let them pick what we will watch, seldom exercising my veto powers.

I got rid of cable 5 years ago, too. I can't bring myself to pay a large recurring fee for the privilege of watching 19 minutes of commercials per hour. The savings go into my movie hobby where I only spend money on exactly what I want.

I have fibre but it doesn’t matter to me. Maybe in the far future I will have no option.
