You may remember that I shared a YouTube video about collecting Physical Media in a Digital World. When I finished watching the video; there was a Youtube comment from the creator named "Cereal at Midnight" that mentioned his story about him buying a Game of Thrones Blu-ray box-set with UV digital copies. He paid $70 for the Complete Blu-ray set from a seller in the states. It seems like pretty good value for what he bought until he discovered later on iTunes that he was given the option to pay double the price (That's $140 btw
![]() What I'm asking here is why would Apple charge extortionate amounts of money to people who want to download complete TV shows on iTunes? Also what are people's experiences here & from people you know about using digital copies when they buy a physical TV show box set from a store? Would you allow yourself to download shows from iTunes regularly? And if you download them; Do you find some useful value to watch them while travelling etc? I have redeemed my Disney codes at their rewards site just for the points which I then use to get more discs. Disney Rewards has been pestering me to create a Movies Anywhere account and link it to some "provider", so, for the hell of it, I did.
If I understand it all correctly, I now have 93 films in two places, Movies Anywhere and Google Play. There is one title included that I have never bought at all and why I have it is a mystery to me. Apparently, I can redeem codes at either place; does it matter which one? I doubt I will ever use my digital collection, but I wanted to see if it would be easy to set it up. It went smoothly from all I can tell, but I have no idea why I "own" Ghostbusters (2016)? I will have to test it someday and see if it works just as easily. I feel kinda dirty having even done this. I have visited the dark side! ![]() And there were no cookies, there, either. Another lie! Last edited by Vilya; 02-10-2018 at 12:50 AM. |

It's not Apple charging those prices, it's HBO. The prices are similar at the other providers. And it's possible they won't be for sale in the future but you're not going to lose access to them if you purchased/redeemed them. I won't pay $20+ for a TV season but I did pay $10 for The Orville after it started because I thought it was worth supporting. I mostly watched it on TV though. |

Where you redeem a code can depend on which studio the code is from and what resolution it is. There is a lot of information about this in various threads in this section, such as The is it redeemable through UV, iTunes, or both Thread. |

Been reading up more on this Disney service and it sounds like if you want adult content you will need to subscribe to Hulu AND Disney. It won’t be too long before you can’t access a studios content until you subscribe to them. No wonder the studios are delighted with subscription. Want Disney? That’s exclusive. Want WB? Same. Brave new world.

2. Every month or two I pick a new service to get and watch the content on it that I want. The only constant is Netflix because so many people in the household view it on a monthly basis. Cost shouldn't be much of an issue if you are constantly joining and cancelling services each month. 3. The upcoming DC Streaming Service really pisses me off. Time Warner already has HBO. That content should be put on there, not separated onto a second streaming service for the same company. 4. Disney is about to triple dip with Hulu, Disney Streaming, and ESPN streaming. That's even worse. |

It happens with certain sports too for paying online subscriptions. You've got examples like Facebook, Amazon Prime, MLB, ESPN, Eurosport Player, WRC+ (World Rally Championship) & F1.com offering sports content online on top of what you already receive with home video services offering Hollywood Film & TV shows. Even in the UK; there has been widespread talk online that the Premier League there should offer an official streaming service to provide English Premier League football matches instead of viewers watching them over expensive TV channels like Sky Sports or BT Sport. It's a good idea in theory because a lot of the fans who couldn't afford tickets to these games watch them instead via pirated streams via modbro and the like. There has to be a point where people have to put on a hold on what they spend on these services & what they want to enjoy to make them completely happy with what they have. Streaming services by & large do not offer that level of security at all unless you are a hard core physical media fan where that type of hobby can offer a lot of great benefits to you & anyone who is a friend or a family member in their own home. I agree all the rest. We don’t get Hulu in the U.K but they plan on International expansion so they need to sort that out for Digital fans. If they put Star Wars and Marvel on Hulu it’s going to be fun to watch the protests and anger. I thinks a service with ads will come if any of these services run into trouble. That or they will have to consolidate. Maybe Apple gets into bed with Disney. Stuff like Shudder and Filmstruck won’t survive imo. Last edited by Steedeel; 02-10-2018 at 04:55 PM. |

I'm with you there.
I was one who said I would never get into streaming and continued to waste money on discs only to watch once and sell. Now I mainly do streaming or check out from the library and only occasionally buy movies I know I'll keep. I know people claim pq reasons, but streaming looks great to me and I don't have an obsession with super clarity (I see enough pores and facial flaws). Plus, I don't like the clutter of stacks and stacks of discs. But that's just me. I applaud all of you have massive collections. I did back in the VHS days and said never again. ![]() |
