I'm not a huge fan but catalog announcements are so much more exciting than the new stuff.

But the director is perfectly happy with the 5.1 remix so there's nothing for Atmos to "help", you know?

I'm glad they are doing a UHD of this. Will definitely pick it up. Not a huge fan of musicals but this is one of two that I quite like (Moulin Rouge being the other) and that's because the songs were very popular at the time and everyone knew them, whether you'd seen the movie or not, as they all charted. I think I saw this twice at the cinema on it's original run in 1978. I used to own the edition with the cover inside a leather jacket which was pretty cool/unique lol. Don't remember what I did with that.

Hope it's a good/new 4k transfer.

Ahhh, nostalgia eh?

Your story sad to tell,
A sound-mix ne'er do well,
Most mixed up audioholic on the block.

Object sound drop-out... (Object sound drop-out...)

Go back to headphones...

So far in 2018 we have a 20th anniversary (Groundhog Day), 30th (Die Hard), 40th (Grease), and 50th (2001) and all four are totally different types of movies!

I've seen this enough I don't really need to see it again unless my wife would be interested. As far as I'm concerned, anything done on film with no CGI (and a good movie...) is a good candidate for a UHD transfer.

Has Paramount finally seen the light about releasing catalog titles in 4k let alone bluray? If so we'll go together like rama lama ding dong.

It's encouraging given this and the Cheech and Chong titles coming to BD.

Saturday Night Fever is hopefully not far behind.

I still haven’t watched my remastered BD of Saturday night. It would be nice if we can get a UHD so I can give the BD away.

Yep, I was amazed when I saw that the C&C movies are coming to BD by Paramount's own hand. Between that and other BD re-releases like SNF and Dreamgirls it's all rather encouraging.

40 Years Later, It’s Still the Word
GREASE

Relive the Classic ‘50s Celebration with a New 40th Anniversary Edition Featuring Fully Restored Picture and Sound and New Bonus Content on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray™, DVD and Digital April 24, 2018

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – It’s got a groove, it’s got a meaning…and it’s still a cultural phenomenon 40 years after its original release. The iconic celebration of high school life in the 1950s, GREASE is the way you’ll be feeling with a new 40th Anniversary Edition on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital April 24, 2018 from Paramount Home Media Distribution.

Featuring an explosion of song and dance, as well as star-making performances from John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, GREASE made an indelible impact on popular culture. 40 years later, the film remains an enduring favorite as legions of new fans discover the memorable moments, sensational soundtrack and classic love story. Boasting unforgettable songs including “Greased Lightnin,” “Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” “Summer Nights,” “Hopelessly Devoted To You,” “Beauty School Drop Out” and, of course, “Grease,” the film is a timeless feel-good celebration.

Paramount worked with director Randal Kleiser to restore GREASE to its original vibrancy with the highest quality sound, picture resolution and color. The original negative was scanned and received extensive clean up and color correction using previously unavailable digital restoration tools such as high dynamic range technology. In addition, the audio was enhanced from a six-track mix created for an original 70mm release, giving the music more clarity. The resulting picture and sound create an exceptional home viewing experience.

The GREASE 40th Anniversary Edition 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs include the fully restored version of the film plus an all-new, in-depth exploration of the little-known origins of what would become a Broadway play and then a feature film and worldwide phenomenon. “Grease: A Chicago Story” features new interviews with writer Jim Jacobs and original cast members of the Chicago show. In addition, the discs include the original song the title sequence was animated to and an alternate ending salvaged from the original black & white 16mm work print discovered by director Randal Kleiser
.

Both the 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Combo Packs also feature more than an hour of previously released bonus material, including a sing-along, vintage interviews with the cast, deleted scenes and more. Plus, the Blu-ray Combo comes in collectible packaging with 16 pages of images laid out like a high school yearbook. In addition, a Grease Collection will be available in a Steelbook Locker, which includes the 40th Anniversary Blu-ray of Grease, as well as Grease 2 and Grease: Live! on Blu-ray for the first time.

I mean Lara Croft: Tomb Raider & The Cradle of Life were originally multi-channel surround. Not Atmos or DTS X so why remix the films to have those? its like those hypocrites who get upset that the original mono/stereo/stereo surround is missing from the Friday the 13th movies but get all excited that Groundhog Day only has a new Atmos track & no original stereo surround option.

Well, we still don't know whether Kleiser took the opportunity to 'sweeten' this new mix with a load of reverb and backing vocals that weren't there originally as was done on the previous 5.1 remix. But that they've basically started over by using the 6-track mix COULD mean that we get a relatively un-****ed soundtrack for Grease for the first time in the post-DVD era. I'll have my custom Blu-ray with original stereo audio (ripped from VHS ) ready to rumble though for comparative purposes.

I adore this film so I'm getting VERY excited as to what Uncle Paramount will be bringing us in just a couple of months' time. Eeeeeeeeeeeeek!
