Have the re-releases been in store at Best Buy on release date though? I know people have been getting them, but IIRC, they were showing up 1-2 weeks later. So maybe that's why BB doesn't have them yet?

I'm STILL waiting on Earthsea and Pom Poko... my Prime expired in December and I haven't had a chance to get it again yet, so my Jan 8th pre-order just finally shipped on Friday and is expected to arrive on Wednesday. I guess Amazon doesn't care about anybody unless they're Prime.
Sad thing is, Amazon never cared about anyone except for what's in their wallet.

I think I would actually re-purchase Poppy Hill for a matching slipcover.

What bothers me is that From Up On Poppy Hill doesn't line up with the others.

Never mind that. What kind of order are they in?

You're not alone. From the official GKIDS Twitter account:

I agree they should be in release order or alphabetical order.

Well, they are grouped together in the batches that GKids released them in (Yamadas, Cat and Whisper were rereleased the same day, Pom Poko and Earthsea came out the same day, etc.) . But they aren't in order of how GKids released them.

They should be in theatrical release order or alphabetical order.

I agree. I have mine in theatrical release order. I was just making an observation. But really, despite our OCD tendencies, we should let people file them any way they want.
And speaking of theatrical release order, I have another question which the learned denizens of this thread will surely be able to answer. According to Wikipedia, both My Neighbor Totoro and Grave of the Fireflies were released April 16, 1988. Is that date correct for both films? I can't see them competing against themselves like that.

I'm pretty sure they were released as a double feature in theaters in Japan.

I'm kind of just thinking about getting the "Collected Works" set from Disney to have my Miyazaki fix, is there anything particularly special about these releases by comparison? That big Princess Mononoke making of is apparently never making it to the States.

They are certainly quite a contrast. Hopefully they showed "Grave..." first, so you could walk out of the theatre a little more upbeat with Totoro fresh on your mind.

No, they alternated between showing Grave of the Fireflies first or Totoro.

That's not quite true either though, because then Earthsea/Pom Poko would be after Whisper/Cat/Yamadas.

It is kind of annoying, but honestly I'm more bothered that the new ones don't even line up with each other because each slipcover is probably cut slightly different.... It's one thing that Poppy Hill doesn't match since it was their first and wasn't intended on matching, but these new ones do but are still off lol Since GKIDS tweeted that, I'm surprised they haven't re-released it. I tweeted at them when I saw it a few months ago and said they should reprint it and make people take pictures of their current one which will let us be able to buy reprinted artwork/slipcover for like $5.

I'm lol'ing at all this talk about "the order" I've got mine in =)

Here's the answer: They're in a "I've taken them out of the shopping bag, started stacking them one by one and pulling out the ones with the messed up slip covers and putting those on the top so I can get to them easier when I find a good replacement, all before I actually put them up on my bluray shelf" order, haha
