Even though I don't have a 7.1 system, I just watched my First BD (Hellboy II) and if it was That Amazing (& LOUD!! I loved it!) at 5.1, it has to be ref. quality at 7.1 from all i've heard and read here. As for "Shoot Em' Up", on SD DVD it sounded pretty damn good, and might be very good on BD, but I have to agree that, overall, it is a Lame movie. I made the mistake of buying it before renting, hearing it was a great action flick, good sound, etc. Too bad the movie itself kind of sucked. Also, as someone mentioned here and in other posts, 3:10 To Yuma must be Amazing in 7.1 also, becuz' the 5.1 SD DVD I watched kicked ass! I DO have it on BLU, but haven't yet watched it. Yet...

I have both 3:10 to Yuma and Hellboy II and they DO sound awesome in 7.1. I have some other titles that are 7.1, but for the most part they are not as action oriented as these 2. My son has some animated 7.1 titles that are in my movie list that also sound pretty good.

It's not a shoot-em-up, but I'd like to suggest 'Hairspray'. It's a great movie with excellent audio and video

I'm going to have to get Hellboy II now.

Are all/most of the Pixar movies good references?

i have both 310 to yuma and hellboy 2, they are very comparable @ 7.1. being that i liked hellboy 1 over 2 i would pick 310 overall as the better 7.1 reference audio disc. shoot em up was a waste of 2 hours of my life or however long it was. i wanted to smash the netflix disc after watching it so others don't have to suffer what i went through.

Sounds like I'm not going to bother watching Shoot-Em Up.

But I would agree, 3:10 to Yuma is the best 7.1 reference disc when you consider movie and audio - Rambo is also very good for 7.1, if the people you have over can stomach the violence.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but I just watched Golden Compass with my son last weekend, and found it to have amazing sound.. I'm only running a 5.1 system, so I can't speak for the other two speakres, but it was fantastic

hahahaha - yea, that movie was just a bit, as Stallone might say, "Over The Top", huh?! -- When people's limbs kept getting blown off or Massive holes in their bodies from the tank-busting type automatic weapons, you know they all said, "F--K it, make it Bigger, Gorier, Bloodier!" at some point.

That said, I have that movie in my collection and can't wait to hear it, 5.1 or 7.1, i'm sure it'll kick butt any which way!

LOL - I have Hellboy in my Amazon cart, but HB 2 was amazing in, as I noted, my decent RM6750 Polk system. Usually the volume is anywhere from 50-58, sometimes higher, when watching movies so I get all the full sound & any of the nuances. But for HB 2 I had to keep turning it down to near 44 or so!!

PS - sorry for your 2 hours or so wasted on Shoot Em' Up. Ditto here!
