I have to agree, sadly, and I think that's why it's hard for me to enjoy the Harry Potter movies. The filmmakers spend more time worrying about visuals for spells and action sequences and attractive (and "trendy" in the words of the 3rd film's director) actors in wizard robes as opposed to being true to the literary form of the story. Dan Radcliffe looks painful as Harry - oftentimes looking akward when reciting something Harry said in the book (might not be his fault though, rather the director's) and Emma looks nothing like Hermione. Ron is the truest-to-the-character actor on the films. Just my opinion. The last two films have been the best. The first two were horrible. The third was better than the first two.

Never could get into Harry Potter movies. Even my kids(both under 10 years old) comment how each movie seemed to be the same thing over and over with plot devices being constantly reused. Like the kids sneaking around the school at night eventually bumping into someone, a new professor shows up and is *somehow* tied to Valdemort, blah, blah, etc, etc. Every time something happens they all act surprised like "Oh, maybe this is all tied to Valdemort?" Im like...really? You guys are sharp... I mean....duh....

The Potter movies aren't that bad. My worst complaint is(Spoiler) not having neville's candidacy for the prophecy be mentioned in OOTP.

Plus, luckily, a mugglenet employee got into a special preview screening of the sixth a couple months ago, and gave the movie two thumbs up, saying that all the subplots(minus House elves) being in there with a nice balance of action, suspense, and comedy.

The filmmakers love the books. At least those with continuitive say, and not just the one-time directors. Producers have their voices, too.

Emma does look like Hermione, just without bushy hair. And Radcliffe is benefiting from his gained experience in the role.

You can't expect any adaptation to be exactly like the book it's based on, otherwise the filmmakers might've tried it by now.

Have your kids even read the books? If not, then you have no real ground on such an opinion.
Not every plot device is the same. Certainly some films have sneaking out at night, but Umbridge did not tie-in to Voldemort in movie 5. The biggest complaints about reuse have been all on Ron's use for comic relief(which gets dull, I admit).

Once again, I find myself defending reason from stupidity. Dh had better make it worth my while.

One thing is certain now that the house elves is not in HBP. Dobby and Kreature have to be in the 2 DH films

I have read every one and while I agree they are an accurate representation of the book(sorta), I just don't think they are that great. They do not have the magical deep mature feeling that the books had, and I do not like emma watson(call me crazy).

While I do admit they are getting better, I just don't think the actors are as believable as they could be. :/ IMHO

Exactly, with Peter Jackson's great directing ability, and Guillermo Del Toro's imaginative mind and the ability to create depth and maturity to a fantasy film will make it as good if not better than the first three(don't quote me on this)

I also love how Guillermo creates believable characters using a great make up crew instead of using all cgi.

I personally believe I am legend would have benefited from Guillermo's help.

I think Del Toro's art direction in Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth will be perfect for the world of the Hobbit. It's much lighter and more fantastical to being with.

I've said this so many times on here haha. I'm just so damned excited.

They're not great, I agree, but one only needs an open mind, and accept the films for what they are to enjoy them. Movies always take liberties, no matter the source.

I agree. I've probably seen each movie a hundred times over and every time is like the first time.
