My main Blu-ray player is a Samsung 3D 2010 with a 7.1 setup (exact model is in my signature).
It will play, with great effort, new titles (3 attempts of reinserting the Happy Death Day disc), but I fear the day I put a new disc in and it refuses to load completely. I have a PS4 and 4K player, both capable of 3D, but it’s the audio element that I’ll miss on new titles and the ability to watch in 3D with the audio setup as there are no more 3D home theatres. It’s a very sleek design on my model as well, very ahead of its time and its still new to me as I got it later down the line refurbished. Any recommendations? |

Just plug your PS4 and UHD BD player into the Samsung to use it's surround sound, then output everything to your display.
It sounds like the player is becoming obsolete, there hasn't been a firmware upgrade in a few years. Shame as it looks like a beautiful system, but at least you can plug new players into it. |

Interestingly, Chip, there’s a 2 pin plug that connects the player to the subwoofer. I’ve never seen anything like it, but there definitely isn’t a port for it on either the PS4 or 4K. I wonder if I can connect it another way, though...

Unless I'm thinking about the wrong Samsung HT, at the back of the sub woofer there should be three HDMI ports at the bottom left, one HDMI OUT and HDMI 1 and HDMI 2. Plug your UHD BD and PS4 into those and use the FUNCTION key on the remote to switch between them. Then plug HDMI OUT into your TV (which I imagine you're doing already).

No worries, mate.
The other thing is it might be better to plug your UHD BD player's* second HDMI output (the AUDIO OUT or SUB (Audio Only) output) into the HT and the player directly into your TV, as it probably can't passthrough 4K signals or support HDCP 2.2. The standard PS4 should be okay as it doesn't support 4K. *I'm not sure which player you have, but most of the Samsung models have 2 HDMI outputs. Last edited by chip75; 02-21-2018 at 05:11 PM. |
