Wasn’t basket case shot in 16?

I think the 4k remaster of "Basket Case" was produced by MOMA, and Arrow bought the distribution rights for the movie based on the fact that the new restoration existed already.

There's a slight upgrade but 16mm will always depend of the shape the film is in. Henry Portrait of a Serial Killer looked good in 4K. But Hills Have Eyes was pretty ugly to look at. It's all in the film print.

One of my favorite releases also. I think Arrow had the choice to do either a 2k or 4k scan but the print looked like ass so they went with 2k because 4K wouldn't do much probably. Like film prints, you can polish a turd, but it's still shit. I do have faith they will make it look good because Arrow knows what's best

Guys, I think Arrow downloaded my restoration of the trailer, removed the MGM logo and uploaded it with worse encoding.

My original upload

Arrow's (Re)Upload?

If someone knows how to get in contact with the Arrow team, I can provide them the uncompressed video and audio files, as I still have them in my external hard drive.

Gotcha. I'm uploading the uncompressed files elsewhere in the event they ask for them for the actual blu-ray disc.

Still disappointed that this doesn't appear to contain the last of that elusive footage, but it looks like it'll be a delicious edition regardless. Cannot wait to have it in my hands.

I'm more disappointed that we might still get the same MGM transfer of the version on the first disc more than anything else.

The R-Rated and "Krug & Company" cuts might be fresh transfers, but I would like Roy Frumkes to take a crack at restoring the uncut version into the one he has eluded to prior to Wes Craven removing those moments mentioned to be currently missing from it.

The announcement claims that the film has been 'newly restored in 2K from original film elements,' so it'd be pretty cheeky if they used the existing MGM master. My guess is that the two other cuts will look identical - they'll probably just use seamless branching.

But yeah, I would've loved to see the uncut uncut version. Obviously Frumkes is involved, given the interview with him on Disc 2, so I can't fathom why we're not getting more footage. Maybe it'd be seen as clashing with Craven's wishes, I dunno. Presumably the 'deleted scene' on Disc 1 will be the forced cunnilingus outtakes that premiered on the 2008 UK DVD. It'd be cool if, at the very least, all the outtakes and dailies received a fresh scan.

At least I finally get to see the "Krug & Company" cut, as us Americans never got it in any of the Domestic home video releases.

Don't expect anything revolutionary! It's largely the same, just some different edits here and there. The biggest difference is that Mari is alive when her parents find her, and she identifies the attackers.

I was looking on movie-censorship.com, and based on that site's description of the R-rated version, if they are going to do seamless branching, it would make a lot more sense to branch the R-rated from the uncut on disc 1 rather than the Krug & Co cut on disc 2.

Probably, but assuming Arrow release a single-disc standard edition at some point, it'd make sense to pop the less desirable cuts on Disc 2.

Diabolikdvd.com is the earliest way and also the most guaranteed way to get Limited Arrow titles.

How and when did the Krug & Company cut come about?

Also, what's the point of the R-rated version? I'm assuming it just censors a bunch of the more violent content. If this is a version that other countries got, I suppose it would be a curiosity from a historical perspective, to study what specifically ratings boards deemed abhorrent? Or maybe it's an effective, alternate experience without the gore?

Pretty sure the Krug & Company version is a workprint. That was one of the many, many earlier titles before they finally settled on The Last House on the Left.

As for the R-rated version, I'd honestly forgot such a cut ever existed till I spotted it in the Arrow announcement, but I'm assuming it's the heavily-censored version that cropped up on Vestron VHS (and prompted Wes Craven and Roy Frumkes to create a director's cut). I guess it's there solely for historical interest.
