Red Sparrow (2018) Cut one scene

Uncut and MPAA R rated in the US. The film was cut in the UK for a 15 rated cinema release.

The company was advised the film was likely to be classified 18 but that their preferred 15 could be achieved by making reductions in one scene of strong sadistic violence (a garroting). When the film was submitted for formal classification appropriate reductions had been made in that scene and the film was classified 15.

Have you seen the BBFC guidance?
"strong bloody violence, gore, sexual violence, sex, very strong language".
Just make it a f***ing 18. Christ sake.

Or just leave it uncut. I'm sure a 15 year old could take it.

Distributors will often require the lower rating but in most although not all cases we should get it uncut on home video

This has been discussed before. Sometimes it's very minor scenes which the BBFC deemed strong enough to garner the bump in age rating. With an 18 certificate it limits its box office potential so the studio decides to cut the offending scene, which more often than not ends up uncut on the blu-ray.

There was speculation about the details a while back in this thread, but I can confirm that the UK release of the Indiana Jones bonus disc is definitely censored but not in the way it's listed in the thread's main list.

We all know that the BBFC censored the 1981 "Making-of Raiders" documentary back in the day due to horse-falls and suspected that the Blu-ray was also censored due to having the bonus disc have only UK/Ireland ratings logos while the 4 movie films had all the major European ratings logos on them. Having gone over the US and UK bonus discs I can say that while they both have the same run time, the latter's version of the 1981 "Making-of Raiders" documentary is definitely altered from the original.

The first (and most obvious) edit is during a montage at the 2:40 mark, where the last old-timey stunt in a montage before fading to Raiders footage is a horse-fall in both the US Laserdisc and US BD releases, but a different horse stunt from earlier in the montage (where a rider is pulled off its back in a chase scene) is repeated rather clumsily in the UK release in that spot.

Another non-censorship change (which is present on both the UK and US bonus discs) is that the "Memories, Friends, and Eight-by-Tens" song used for the closing credits on the original US Laserdisc was replaced with instrumental music from the film itself. Probably a rights issue, considering the 30+ year gap between releases.

There's probably a few more similar edits that I didn't notice, but as it is that's still enough confirmation for the purposes of this thread.

In addition to the harmless Axe body spray scene that was oddly cut from That's My Boy, some dialogue that sounded pedophilic to the BBFC was cut/redubbed.

In the uncut version, the judge quotes Mary Beth as saying "I would ____ that kid again and again"; the UK version says "I would _____ that stud again and again".

More examples are available on the (NSFW) Movie-Censorship site.

Wow. That's just pathetic. We really need labels, studios, cinema and retailers to band together and mass boycott the BBFC. It's truly not fit for purpose and later this year when they're legally bound to rate and censor online porn in the UK (good luck with that) they're just going to get worse and weirder.

I'm against this informal"pre-submitting for advice" situation,it can be potentially very misleading.

Pre-submit for advice to know about potential cuts there may be,submit version with said cuts completed, get "The work was passed uncut" label, then only the people who bother to check and look further into it will discover it was pre-cut.

If the complete version of a film was cut to get a lower certificate, then the film was "cuts of X minutes/seconds were made at the distributors request to get a "insert certificate here"certificate" and thats exactly what it should state imo.

Excellent idea. Sounds too much like common sense and transparent business practice so it'll never happen.

The BBFC makes no reference to cuts or pre-cuts, so any cuts made to the UK version weren't requested by them.

Mountain Of The Cannibal God (1978) Cut 2m 1s
Note-all cuts are for animal violence six scenes
some animal violence still remains

some more info here
http://www.dvdcompare.net/review.php?rid=5307

so they removed some but not all animal violence
also this is the same extended version I think that was on US DVD so has all those extra scenes I presume
last UK DVD release's were 4m shorter version and still cut 2m 6s

scenes missing are most likely
Cuts to a crocodile getting the better of a turtle
Some shots missing from a snake eating a monkey
Cuts to a crocodile taking live lunch on another turtle
A fight between a snake and a hawk is missing

Death Wish is a 2017 USA action crime thriller by Eli Roth

BBFC category cuts were required for a 15 rated cinema release in 2018. Uncut and MPAA R rated in the US.

The UK home video will be uncut and has been rated 15 by Ireland's IFCO.
(BBFC details not yet published for the promised Uncut Version)

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/death-wish-film-0

2018 UK Cinema release
Passed 15 for strong violence, injury detail, language after 14s of BBFC category cuts
BBFC commented:
Company chose to make reductions to a scene of torture in order to obtain a 15 classification. An uncut 18 classification was available.
A few days earlier Death Wish was passed 18 uncut but the distributors preferred a cut 15 rated release.

Seems that Universal are releasing a cut 15-rated version of Brawl in Cell Block 99 on home video. Pretty bizarre, considering it's already available 18 uncut. It'll be cut by 44 seconds.

Especially considering the audience for that movie, the OTT violence is part and parcel of the movie.

Remember, it's the studios as well wanting lower certificates for their film to reach a wider audience.

Plus there are a handful of examples where the MPAA have cut films and internationally we've had it uncut. Other countries have censors as well remember. Look at UAE who censored 45 mins from Wolf of Wall Street before release.

Bit odd. It is a good movie - regardless of the violence in it - I must be getting old as I was a bit "EWW!!!" at some scenes.

yeh noticed that, weird

now under 18's can see it they way it was never meant to be seen
in this one off special edit by the BBFC
who cares about the director, when you can now see it censored
in our special one off collector's cut to bits and ruined edition
tired of looking away or closing your eyes whenever you see something horrible in the nasty Uncut version, no need to hide behind a pillow either
just buy the BBFC cut version
