So if you don't have:
A-a five foot television
B-that can produce 1080P
C-and want to sit far enough away that you can actually see what you're watching

then the format is irrelevant to what you'll see.

People will weigh in differently, because a lot of people shape their opinions based on what they want to believe, rather than the evidence staring them in the face.

If you don't meet those criteria the only difference you can in reality experience is that, since Sony and Disney absorb beyond normal production expenses, blu-ray discs are usually a few bucks cheaper.

Okay Trolly McTrollerton. Thanks for this very uneducated opinion.

#1) Even a CD can read fast enough to create a 1080p image
#2) You'll notice a difference from about 50" and up, not 60"
#3) The PCM track on the Blu-ray is more desirable than the TrueHD track found on both because of the dialogue normalization. Anything that brings down levels brings down the overall dynamic

it defenetly going to be close between the HD DVD and the Blu-ray 300 version, i dont think Blu-ray will outsell the HD DVD version 3:1 (personaly i would love it if they would)

I heard it's best to wait before buying 300, as Warner is planning to "double-dip" on this title, releasing a BR version with more PiP options later.

Aren't those extra options available on the HD DVD version?

But the question is . . . who really cares? How desirable is it to watch this movie with no special effects? You're watching the same thing, but at that point it's just a bunch of half naked dudes playing war in front of a screen.

But yes, they're available on the HD DVD version, which the HD DVD camp REALLY wants you to be aware of, since it's apparently what every consumer wants.

huh? No special effects? What are you talking about?

Fact is, it seems HD DVD has the extras and Blu-ray doesn't? Being able to play both formats, why would someone want to buy the blu-ray version?

He's talking about the extras - PiP of the scene playing out without special effects as you watch the movie. Big whoop IMO. It sucks that it's taking studios and the BDA so long to get their java stuff together on Blu-ray, but is this material essential to the enjoyment of the movie? No, IMO it isn't.

Cheaper, want to have it in a format that has a better chance of survival. Besides some people dont care for extra's, such as myself, so why would I bother buying it in hd dvd. Just my point of view.

For $4 more, I'd rather have the option of the extra features and I can play it anywhere. I don't need my HD DVD player for it.

And let's be real - if the Blu-ray version had the extra features, people here would be using that to their benefit as well.

Speaking of features (and I think I'm probably not alone on this one) but I just popped in Black Hawk Down and looked at the Blu Wizard thing with the special features that you could customize for maximum enjoyment . . . looked at it for about two seconds, decided I couldn't possibly care less, and just started watching the movie. Pretty much the same thing I'll do with PIP.

Many people are very vocal about the fact that features are not the determining factor. If the special features were available on Blu, I guess that could be considered a plus, but really, nobody would care. People care more about higher bit rate encoding and uncompressed audio.

I wouldnt care if it had extra features, if people go that route look at Face/Off and how the Blu ray is going to have extra features and the hd dvd won't, big flipping deal, just give me the movie.

Off topic . . . but did you join the Blu-ray forum and get surprised by the fact that people don't prefer HDDVD? And have you dedicated yourself to posting in every single thread picking apart every comment and spinning it toward HDDVD? If that's the case, you have a lot of work ahead of you . . .

After coming over here from Hidef digest I notice theres a lot of people that just like to start arguements for the fun of it, but some do it within reason, at least he's doing it within reason.

i have heard in person from the mouthes of format neutral people that they prefer blu to those combos. one guy even returned a number of them after having freeze up issues. so if thats true that would be one. and the bluray cases look so much cooler i just saw a commercial for 300 on bluray on universal hd channel, that makes me giggle.

Just to let you know, for $4 more you won't be able to play the features anywhere. The extra features on divided up onto both sides of the disc, thus half of the extras are only accessible via an HD-DVD player.

I despise combo's, that even goes for dual side dvd's, I dont want to have to worry about 2 sides of a disc getting scratched, I would rather worry about one.

I personally don't like combo anything. And if you have an HD DVD player and an HDTV . . . what use are you really going to get out of the SD side? Take it with you when you go on vacation every now and then? Whoopee.

I'm getting the HD version of this one since it does have the PIP with it!! Normally I go with the Blu Ray for format Neutral companies since my PS3 is much faster than my HD-A1 that's the only bad thing about it's very slow!!
Just like my last purchase of Purple Rain that was on Blu Ray since it's the faster machine!! Also Christmas Vacation I have on Blu Ray, Aeon Flux I have on Blu Ray. The 9 I have on HD is because I had my HD machine before my PS3 or the HD version was cheaper where I went. Those are Mission Impossible 1,2,3, Enter The Dragon Superman Returns 1, & 2 since I got them cheaper and also Toto Live in Amsterdam since that one was cheaper as well!! We Were Soldiers as well didn't have my PS3 yet for that one either.

Mischa.
