I finally watched my copy last night and thought the PQ was stunning -- it's the best UHD I've watched so far. Even my significant other -- who is beyond skeptical of 4K -- was impressed. The AQ also rocked. It's a great movie that hits all the right chords to me.

The-numbers.com has an estimated sales chart, but is slower to update. IT's debut week sales numbers have just been reported there, with a combined 790,521 Blu and DVD units sold. Blu-Ray represented 511,614 of those sales. According to mediaplaynews.com, the Blu-ray's share for the title was 62% of total sales, which includes UHD at 12%. Well I watched this last night in HDR10 not Dolby Vision and I mostly agree with Blu-Ray.com's review. Very rarely did this movie's actual detail look more than slightly better than a really top notch 1080p Blu-Ray. I bought it together with Blade Runner 2049 UHD and when comparing that Native 4k title to this the loss in fine detail is very noticeable. People saying that having an actual 4k master doesn't matter much are just wrong. That said the HDR make this release the best even without Dolby Vision which I am sure would look even better

It's not the detail but the HDR grade that's the MVP here, so naturally the worse off people are in that regard OR the less that they care about such things to begin with will affect how they perceive this disc. For my money it's quite lovely, even in plain old HDR10.

I bet if people were shown a movie on UHD without having any knowledge on its DI, most of the time they couldn't tell if it was 2K or 4K.
And besides, I'd rather have a stunning looking 2K DI than a so so 4K DI. ![]() |

Revisited this over the weekend with my wife and am still impressed with the picture quality. I don't think I'd mistake it for a 4K master, but the vivid colors and sense of depth you get on the UHD are among the best in the format. I still think the Atmos track is the star of the show and it sounded great even at the lower volume we have to utilize at night while our son is sleeping.
That said, the movie itself didn't hold up well with the second viewing. Horror movies will always lose that sense of tension and "what is going to happen next" feeling the second time around, but after finishing IT this time I just lamented what a missed opportunity it was that they didn't focus more on the kid's relationships and IT's impact on the town and the atmosphere of Derry. Watching it again really made clear that the movie is just one set up for a CGI scare after another, from beginning to end, with very little meaningful content sprinkled throughout. Pennywise is more like a cartoon character than one of the most frightening entities in the history of horror fiction, and you never really see just how creepy Derry itself is supposed to be. I always felt the book was more about the oppressiveness of the town itself than the clown, but here it is the opposite (by a WIDE margin). Truly great horror movies will always bring you back with a great sense of atmosphere that still absorbs you and makes you feel tense even after you've seen the movie a hundred times. The forced scares and overuse of CGI really bog this one down, which is a shame since the book--and even the old made for TV movie--oozed atmosphere. I wonder how it might have turned out had they focused more on the creepiness of Derry and less on CGI scares. |

The movie is a solid 8 out of 10. I enjoyed it quite a bit. But there were several missed opportunities which I felt right as I was exiting the theater. |

I enjoyed the film very much.
If there's any sense of disappointment I feel, it's that I'll never get to see Cary Fukunaga's rendition of the film. Andy Muschietti is a good director and all. But he's never made anything even remotely as good as the first season of TRUE DETECTIVE. Or 'Beasts of No Nation' for that matter. I think this film will remain the best rendition of the story of 'IT' for quite some time. Decades even. But I'll always feel like there was a missed opportunity with the studios not allowing Fukunaga to make the film he wanted to make. |

I thought True Detective Season 1 was some of the best drama I had seen in some time. However, as much as I respect the director for being a part of that, the stuff I was hearing he wanted in this film... well, I’m glad the studio went in a different direction. |

We will never know what might have been. I was entertained by the movie we got, but I was hoping for something more. The Fukunaga adaptation feels like it would have tried for something more unique and cerebral, which I would have appreciated.
Sadly, both of the Stephen King adaptations that have made it to UHD have not held up well on second viewings for me, though I at least enjoyed IT much more than the The Dark Tower the first time around. |

Watched this last night, wasn't terribly impressed. Dark scenes looked great but daytime scenes were pretty dull. Which is how I remember it looking in theaters, so I'm not exactly complaining. But overall, the disc just wasn't one that wow'd me. Nor my friend that insisted on watching it, but he liked the movie a lot (as did I in theaters, but for some reason, not so much last night). We did a double-feature of IT and Crimson Peak, and I enjoyed the latter quite a bit more.

This is absolutey one of my favorite 4ks. No Dolby Vision here, but I thought the HDR was glorious (particularly fo outdoor scenes) and the movie itself was really cool. I’m just bummed we have to wait for the rest of the story!

Holy shiet. I just got an Atmos soundbar (yeah, I know, soundbar are a no no, but it was a great deal, can’t say no to a 250 dollar Atmos bar) and checked out the scene at Neibolt House. The creaking sounds were incredible. I tried looking but I can’t find any specific threads, is there a thread somewhere that lists impressive Atmos demo scenes?

I can only see Amy Adams as Beverly and no one else. She has a similar facial structure and those same big bright blue eyes. Casting anyone else would be wrong, in my opinion. Unless, Adams is offered and she declines. Plus, she is a wonderful actress. Chastain does not even look similar. Her eyes are not as lighter or as big as Sophia's.
