Even if I bring this TV back Now

It would cost me 25% restocking fee (sears)

Also I tossed the Box already

I paid about $725 and with Tax came to around $842 have to get the Bill to double check.

The only thing in "HD" or "1080p" is BR. That's it.

Cable will likely never be in 1080p, or at least not anytime soon. There are a FEW games that are in 1080p, but I haven't found any personally that are worth buying.

So in conclusion, I refuse to buy 1080p until "most" games are in 1080p, because I play the 360 and Wii quite a bit. Or, until broadcast television is in 1080p. Until then, I'll keep the savings.

That sucks. Most places will take the tv back even if the box is gone but a restocking fee on a TV at a brick and mortar store. damn man you may have to craigslist that TV for $725 without the tax. Dont get me wrong 720p is good but if you plan on having this a while you should future proof yourself and get a 1080p one, cause your gonna kick your self in the ass in a couple years and say to yourself you should have gone 1080p.

1080p on a 360? Microsoft uses dvds for their games not blu-ray. You wont get a true 1080p game unless you have a PS3.

I hate going this off topic, but-
This is not really true. There was a tennis game on the 360 that was native 1080p... as far as i know though, that's it.
Halo 3 was 640p, and the majority of their games are native 720p. Microsoft gets away with lying and saying 1080p on their cases by claiming that they get upscaled...

Your first sentence is news to me but I defiantly agree with you on the rest. I wonder if the game was a small game and they were actually able to compress everything down to actually get a 1080p signal?

if this is what you could afford then enjoy it and don't think about it, there will always be something better now or in the future. You can't always have the best.

I think the days where you bought a TV until it dies are long past. Technology advances too fast, in a few years you will want that bigger and better and cheaper TV and you can move the old one to a different room.

Also the days when

You get the benefits of 1080p 50 or 60 inches (not sure the exact size but it's somewhere around there) and on.

I might be in the minority, but when I was tv shopping - I factored in longevity. Even if I keep the set only a few years. No sense buying outdated tech when new tech is right there and does not cost that much.

720p is good.

1080p is best.

Don't fret though. You really sit only 3 feet away? Thats kinda scary. Anyways, just say the tv keeps turning off or having weird pink lines showing up and there will not be a restocking fee - Evil, I am!

i got a jvc 720p hdtv, as it was all i could afford. i got it back in may. are you saying i should craiglist and go for broke on a 1080p? seriously, what is wrong with 720p televisions? i think they do an amazing job with blu-rays and they handle hd content on tv quite beautifully. there is hardly any hd channels on cable anyway and it's not worth the extra price to get what few they have. i think 720p is fine and will certainly be around for awhile. to the original poster, i'm not planning on replacing my 720p for years to come. so i think you're fine. enjoy the tv. it's all about what you like. not what some people on the internet tell you to like.

Correct. Around here you would think 1440p or 4Kp was just around the corner. Most of that is speculation and bananna heads salivating over some news bit for technology they heard was coming. But if you keep waiting for the lastest you would never buy anything.

I read that HD DVD and Blu-ray was coming way back in 2003. As you can see, I have been a member of this forum since 2004 - predating most of the admins. But that news didn't stop me from adopting DVD. Nor did some news bit on holo-optical disc stop me from buying blu-ray.

Even when new and better technology comes out, it doesn't magically stop the old one from working. Nor does it mock its existence. Well, maybe just a little in the case of HD DVD.

720p will be with us a long time. It is best suited for smaller TV's.

720p/60 will stick around for a long time as a broadcasting standard for networks like ESPN, ABC and FOX.

1280 X 720 resolution may continue to be used in small, entry level (read: cheap) HDTV monitors and video projectors for a few more years. It may also be used in small, portable Blu-ray players whenever those arrive on the market. Some in-car BD-capable systems may use 720p displays as well.

720p is all but dead in HDTV monitors of any significant size factor, like 35" and above. Some companies may still be selling such low resolution TVs but they won't be doing so for much longer.

xbox is high definition. the boxes do say on the back 1080p for the big releases like Call of Duty and Halo 3. I dont think halo or COD 4/5 are in 1080p but it sure as hell isnt SD. its got to be 720p at least, theres no way those games look that good at 480i like some of you are claiming bc theyre on a DVD. I think 720p is nice, but if you save another hundred or so you can have a panasonic 42 inch 80u 1080p for 850-900 something.

I have the same TV, and this summer when the new line of 1080p's come out at a cheaper price, I am going to upgrade. Never worry about having outdated technology, as there is something always willing to take it off your hands for a pretty penny. I got this because I was so tired of my 720p 32". I'm not in a hurry because our TV is actually a very good TV. The PQ is incredible... I just know that I'll never truly rest until I'm utilizing the full potential of my BD collection which I spend a lot of money on.

I bought my Panasonic Viera new for $845 with free shipping and it's a 1080p set, so you can find them. Just check out 6ave.com, great deals there.

Relax, calibrate your set, and enjoy the picture. People can harp on it all they want, but with a good 42" set 720p will offer a great picture. You'll be able to use it without issue for years to come.

In HD-quality output, all those games are rendered at 720p. Even on Playstation 3 (COD4 says so on the back of the box). XBox360 doesn't have any true 1080p capable video game titles. There aren't many on the PS3 platform (games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and downloadable games like Super Stardust HD). 720p is the common standard for current HD-capable consoles.

However, gaming consoles are not what drives HDTV monitors to new heights in resolution. Hollywood movies and formats like Blu-ray do. 1080p is very much the standard for Blu-ray, thus any new HDTV monitor of any significance is going to have to support 1080p and perhaps strive harder to support 1080p/24 and 120Hz (or higher) capability.
