Makes me curious if Synapse didn't hog the negative for Brain Damage how good it would look in 4K.

Synapse never had access to the negatives, it's why they never put out the blu ray themselves. The negatives are currently buried in a major studio vault that no independent label has access to.

Received it last night and took the time to compare quickly with my Second Sight blu-ray edition and the video quality is a lot better. I was on the fence to double dip but I went ahead because of the extras and the nice edition from Arrow. I didn't though a 16mm would get really much better but I was pleasantly surprise.
The picture is more stable and doesn't jump around as much. I didn't notice at first but the encode is not good on Second sight transfer, in comparison with the Arrow transfer it's clear that they didn't do a good job on that side. Details is better on Arrow and the colors are a lot more natural also. The transfer is more "film like" to me and a better experience. I also noticed tiny blue horizontal lines on the second sight transfer, popping once in a while during the first scene in the hotel room but those are not present on the arrow transfer. Great job MoMa ;-) Didn't thought that movie could get any better on blu-ray. |
