Default LCD and black levels.

As someone who just recently upgraded their TV from a Panasonic 1080i rear projection television to a Samsung LN52A850, I must say the black levels are amazing. Sure, it may not be as dark as the high end plasmas, but at night time the black bars literally vanish.

If the black bars "vanish" in a dark room, it's as dark as a plasma.
Got a pic?

It was a christmas gift from my mom, lol. I still plain on getting a nice size TV this year. So I will be set, Sony 52" XBR 6. Then my Sylvania will be going in the bedroom, where it belongs.

Damn I tried hard as hell with my friends 40" of the exact same TV you have over the holidays to get acceptable levels and I just couldn't do it. He has nice lighting on a dimmer which when set low makes it more bearable to watch, but as far as coming close to "black" there was no hope in hell, even with the backlight turned as low as it could go.

black levels on my sony w4000 are really good to especially since i had it ISF calibrated... may not be as black as plasma but pretty good.. i've also noticed that it depends on what the source is.. sometimes blacks are not always black from the source!

Yeah, the source definitely makes a difference. Some movies have much better black levels than others. Another thing that can affect your viewing experience is wall paint. I have white walls and the light reflecting off of them definitely takes away from the black levels. The light from my tv makes half of my apartment light up. If I wasn't so lazy I'd paint them, but oh well...maybe one day.

But since it's an apartment, you have to paint them back when you move... But IDK if that would be worth the hassle...

Watched Forbidden Kingdom paying special attention to the black bars at times. They virtually weren't noticeable at times but it is all dependent on what is being played. If it was bright daylight scene, there is no notice of the bars especially.
