I haven't seen the player in person in Europe, but in images online (such as on Sony's .co.uk website) the backplate is identical to the US version. But that could be explained by not bothering to take an image of the real european rear of the unit. I'll still probably pop that cover off, just to make sure... |

I have a question regarding getting audio to work the way I want it.
I have my X800 directly connected to the TV via HDMI1, HDMI2 is for audio and connected to my non HDR receiver. However I have to press the designated HDMI port on the receiver's remote each time in order to get sound. No biggie for me really but it is for the missus when she is using the X800's Netflix and Youtube apps. So I connected a coax cable from the X800 to the receiver also, thinking it would automatically send sound through it as well. Unfortunately it will only do that when HDMI1 is chosen for sound output, not when HDMI2 has been selected. Anyone knowns if it is possible to use HMDI2 as sound output as well as getting sound from the coax output? |

I have my X800 connected to my Sony receiver via HDMI 2 and I would also have to press the designated HDMI port on the receiver's remote too. I went into the setup menu on the X800 and disabled the HDMI controller and it fixed the problem for me.

You mean disabling HDMI CEC on the X800? So by doing this and then selecting the HDMI port on the TV to which the X800 is connected to, it will then automatically select the HDMI 2 audio output? Not at home right now so I can't try it for myself. |

So your gonna want to go into your X800 setup menu and then you want to go into "system settings". From there select the "HDMI Setting" option. Inside that menu you will see an option for "Control for HDMI". Turn that to "Off". Back out of that menu and then go into the "HDMI Audio Output" menu. Make sure you have that set to "HDMI 2". Then you should be good to go. This is the method that worked for my setup.

The problem is when selecting HDMI 2 for audio output (which I need to be able to have lossless audio during disc playback), the X800 will not simultaneously send out audio through ARC and/or coax (which I want it to do also for when my girlfriend uses the Netflix and Youtube apps). Incidentally when I had the Panasonic UB900 connected to the same receiver also using the dual HDMI outputs to split picture and audio, it did send out sound through HDMI 2 and through ARC at the same time. |

After two weeks I got my X-800 repaired today. These guys at Sony Spain or Sony Europe, which is in Holland, I don't know who takes the decisions, are crazy.
They changed EVERYTHING inside my X-800,the repair guy showed me all the two different circuit boards plus the disc drive they removed from my X-800 that are supposed to be faulty. The only thing that remains from my original X-800 is the chasis frame, the outside and the power cord. It would sure have cost Sony less to give me a new player like I ask them and not having a customer waiting for two weeks to get his player back. Next time I see an interesting Sony component I'll think twice before buying. |

Ok, I am not happy with Sony right now. For weeks I have been trying to get them to resolve a problem with my X800 not playing The Hitman's Bodyguard 4K disc (tried three brand new copies, all locked up the player). At first they told me "if other 4K movies play, then the player is fine." Eventually they agreed that the player should be able to play the Hitman's Bodyguard 4K disc. Then I spent another week trying to get them to either repair or replace my player. They finally called me today and said I can ship my player back to them, and I will get a check for what I paid for the player. The problem is that I bought the player when it was on sale for $150. I told the rep on the phone that I can't replace the player for that amount (I see it for $279 online). I asked him to either repair or replace my player. He said "sorry, this is the only option."
They have spent so much time and effort making sure that I don't get a player that works without spending more money. Unbelievable! ![]() Last edited by ChicagoMike; 03-16-2018 at 08:52 PM. |

This is highly unusual. Sony normally ask to send the player in for repairs and if it can't be repair, or it's too expensive to fix, they'll replace it. How the hell do they skip all of this and just offer you a check? That makes no sense at all. I suggest you give them a call again, and used a relative name and address just to start a new process and see if they give you the option to repair or replace. I suspect the refund thing was an error made by someone who does not really know what they are doing and/or just being lazy and wanted the easy way out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Does anyone else find their 800 really slow at scrolling through a list of movies on a USB 3.0 drive?

In case you're wondering it's easier to make your own network and run straight from the hard/flash drives. I did this and it's much faster than waiting on a player to access and scroll.

Life's good with a 1000-Base-T ethernet backbone. AKA gigabit ethernet. Last edited by Iain-; 03-18-2018 at 11:36 AM. Reason: sp. error correction |

Just to be sure I'm replacing my old cables with Monoprice certified premium cables to eliminate cable issues when I setup my new stuff (Oled TV, sound system, speakers, 4K BD player, etc). |
